Program Associate, Women Employed

Position Announcement: Program Associate

The mission of Women Employed is to improve women’s economic status. Our priority is to improve working conditions and educational attainment for women earning low wages. Women Employed conducts public policy research and advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels, creates model programs, and promotes best practices. We focus on two main program areas: making workplaces fairer and increasing women’s access to and success in high-quality postsecondary education and training leading to better employment.

The organization is seeking an individual to fill the position of Program Associate.

The Program Associate is responsible for mobilizing key constituent groups and developing and maintaining relationships to advance Women Employed’s short and long-term advocacy and engagement goals.

Local and statewide travel is required. Personal car usage will be reimbursed.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Working with volunteer leaders to build and manage WE’s Advocacy Council, which engages young women in advocacy on behalf of lower-paid working women
  • Leading the Student Advocates for Success initiative, which organizes adult students in community colleges to advocate for financial aid and student supports; supervising a part-time organizer and intern in this effort
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of a statewide network of education leaders and practitioners working to improve college success for low-skilled adults; encouraging adoption of best practices, supporting program implementation, and organizing local partnerships
  • Supporting an emerging effort to utilize the influence of professional women through one-on-one relationship building and assistance with advocacy activities.
All Women Employed staff members participate in organizational development, planning, and fundraising activities.

The ideal candidate will possess: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of community or union organizing experience, including experience in campaign design and implementation; strong writing skills with message development experience; interpersonal and public speaking skills; ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and achieve outcomes; excellent organizational skills; self-directed initiative and resourcefulness; attention to detail and commitment to accuracy; a demonstrated interest in/commitment to Women Employed’s issues; flexibility; and a sense of humor.
