Bike to Work Week Coordinator

Summary
For the past 17 years, the Active Transportation Alliance has organized Bike to Work Week (June 11-17 in 2011) for the Chicago region. The goal of the program is to challenge area organizations and businesses to encourage their employees to bicycle to work and track their trips. Team leaders track employee participation by counting biking trips for one week. Active Trans provides participating organizations with a packet of materials, employee trainings and technical support. Winning organizations in several categories are invited to attend an awards luncheon. Also during Bike to Work Week, Active Trans hosts 25 “Commuter Pit Stops” around the region where bike commuters can grab coffee, get a bike check, learn about Active Trans and hang out with other bike commuters.

Definition and Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Commuter Challenge Coordinator, the Bike to Work Week Coordinator assists in promoting, managing, and executing the Bike to Work Week program. The position is temporary, requiring approximately 15-18 hours per week for 16 weeks, from late March through mid July.

Qualifications
· Strong communication skills
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
· Strong multi-tasking abilities
· Strong time management abilities
· Ability to work self-motivated with minimal supervision
· Available for occasional early morning and after-work events, especially during event week
· Ability to speak and write about bike commuting with authority

Duties and Responsibilities
· Assisting in recruiting and outreach to new and previous participants, plus volunteers
· Assisting with marketing and publicity
· Deliver presentations at participating organizations
· Coordinate all team leader communications with Commuter Challenge Coordinator
· Manage procurement, assembly, and distribution of information packets, including printed and downloadable materials
· Coordinate “Commuter Pit Stops” with Commuter Challenge Coordinator
· Assist with program wrap-up, including collecting results
· Assist with awards luncheon coordination

Salary and benefits
This position pays $10-15 per hour, depending on experience. The position is temporary, requiring approximately 15-18 hours per week for 16 weeks, late March through mid July.
