Program Manager - Old Town Merchants & Residents Association

Introduction – Old Town Merchants and Residents Association 

The Old Town Merchants and Residents Association is a 501(c)(6) community organization that functions simultaneously as a chamber of commerce and residential association in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago. Our goal is to continue Old Town’s evolution as a safe and vibrant place to live, work, and laugh. The association organizes events through the year, including the Wells Street Art Festival and Networking events. OTMRA is a delegate agency of the City of Chicago and the Sole Service Provider for Special Service area #48. 

Introduction – Special Service Area #48 – Old Town

 Special Service Areas (SSAs) are locally controlled, locally funded taxing districts used for local community development. They are governed by local taxpayers, and the funds generated are used for programs related to public way beautification and maintenance, enhanced security, snow removal and landscaping services. 

Old Town SSA #48 was established on December 9, 2009, and was reconstituted in 2018. On January 1, 2019, the boundaries of SSA #48 were expanded and granted a 15-year extension. There are eight active Commissioners. 

Job Description Summary 

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Manager oversees the operations of Special Service Area #48 and ensure that all services and programs are effectively managed and implemented. The Program Manager is an employee of the Old Town Merchants and Residents Association with primary duties and responsibilities to SSA #48. The interaction of these entities reflects a ‘checks and balances’ approach that supports transparency and accountability. Communication and respect are the hallmarks of a successful SSA.

La Grande Main Street Downtown (LGMSD) seeks an innovative, self-driven individual to serve as Executive Director of the nonprofit organization in La Grande, Oregon. Major Job Elements: 
  • Build relationships with property owners, business owners, developers, professionals, elected officials, volunteers, and the community. 
  • Advocate for the vision of LGMSD and serve as the primary point of contact for the organization. 
  • Assist the Board of Directors and each of the four standing Main Street Committees to develop an active, vibrant and sustainable downtown. 
  • Maintain and continue to develop the capacity of LGMSD to implement volunteer based, locally driven projects in downtown La Grande: Facade Grant Program, Eastern Oregon Beer Festival, and a variety of downtown promotional activities and events.
Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: architecture, historic preservation, economics, public relations, promotions and special event coordination, design, urban planning, business administration, public administration, retail management, volunteer or nonprofit administration and/or small business development. 
  • Must be sensitive to historic preservation issues. 
  • Ability to build and maintain a motivated volunteer base 
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must be energetic, entrepreneurial, imaginative, well organized, possess a good sense of humor, and be self-motivated and well organized. 
  • Must be a strong leader, motivator, and be able to delegate duties. 
  • Must possess time management skills. 
  • Have a grasp of basic marketing concepts.
Desired Qualification: 
  • Bachelor degree is preferred in one or more of the following areas: architecture, historic preservation, economics, public relations, urban planning, business administration, public administration, retail management, volunteer or non-profit administration and/or small business development. 
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: The Main Street Four-Point Approach®, business/economic development, city/urban planning, marketing, historic preservation, community organizing, fundraising, non-profit management and/or volunteer management. 
  • Marketing experience or demonstrate a strong grasp of basic marketing concepts
Salary and work schedule: 
  • $25,000 + 
  • 30 hours per week 
  • Two weeks paid vacation

Sullivan County Division of Planning & Environmental Management is seeking an ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLANNER. This is a mid-level professional planning position responsible for a diverse range of planning and economic development program functions.  These assignments may include, but are not limited to, program planning, small business development, reporting and program evaluation, financial management, assisting in the development of economic and community revitalization plans and participating in the identification and application of State and Federal grants.  Work assignments may increase in level of complexity and responsibility as the incumbents' professional competence increases.
Candidate must possess a  Master's Degree or higher in planning, economic development, community development,  business studies, environmental studies, geography, public administration or a closely related field and four (4) years’ experience in community and economic development planning;  or a Bachelor's Degree or higher in planning; economic development, community development,  business studies, environmental studies, geography, public administration or a closely related field and six (6) years of experience as described above.
Note: Post Bachelor’s work in planning or a closely related field can be substituted on a basis of thirty (30) credits being equivalent to one (1) year of required experience.
