Responsible for all aspects of project management and coordination for complex multi-modal transportation projects. Coordinates the development, design, and review of transportation projects, plans, and feasibility studies; this includes intersection, roadway, and multi-modal projects, such as pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and parking facilities. Reviews transportation facility design plans and resolves project issues. Develops scopes for new projects which includes developing project cost estimates. Reviews traffic studies, data and performs transportation planning analyses. Prepares technical reports, correspondence and other written documents. Coordinates project development with residents, agencies, and elected officials. May supervise one transportation planner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field; plus four years of experience related to transportation planning.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Valid state motor vehicle operator's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in two or more of the following areas: performing transportation planning for roadway and multimodal projects, traffic engineering, and/or transportation design. Strong analytical, verbal and writing skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with government officials and the general public. Professional Engineer (PE) license desirable. Experience in project management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is generally sedentary. However, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items less than 25 pounds in weight. Conducts periodic field observations requiring standing, riding, and exposure to the elements (weather).

The Montgomery County Department of Planning’s Research & Special Projects Division seeks a Housing Planner for a key research and planning position.  

The position’s duties include supporting long-range sector plan activities as the main contact person and expert on housing questions; producing reports and briefs that shed light on housing needs and trends in the County; assessing housing affordability impacts resulting from proposed development and planning policy; maintaining and analyzing housing statistics, including housing stock characteristics, housing sales, rental cost, vacancy, and turnover; monitor consultant work and contracts; performing market feasibility analysis; and representing the department at local, state, and national meetings on housing policy.

The ideal candidate for the Housing Planner position is acquainted with federal, state or local housing policy and programs and can explain these, as well as supporting facts and figures, to a general audience.  

This position requires experience tabulating housing data, including US Census information, using Excel; some familiarity with the principles of database management; and some experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to display community information. Finally, a prospective Housing Planner should have experience independently and successfully bringing projects to conclusion and managing the competing demands of analyzing data, producing reports, fulfilling ad hoc requests and performing community outreach.

Desired Qualifications:

•  Knowledge of federal, state, or local housing programs and policy.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, on policy issues based on data analysis.

The Austin Transportation Department’s Active Transportation Division within the City of Austin has a Graduate Engineer A or B opening for a full time active transportation designer (bikeways and walkways). This position will assist in the implementation of the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan through the development of a comfortable and connected pedestrian and bicycle network.

The Division focuses on the planning, design and implementation of pedestrian and bicycle facilities as well as education and encouragement programs that promote walking and bicycling. This position will work with a small team of designers that focus on bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure design and implementation within the City of Austin.

Graduate Engineer A or B will perform the following specific duties for a diverse array of projects: 

• feasibility studies 
• data collection and field work 
• design 
• peer review; plan review 
• managing public processes 
• project implementation oversight 
• review layout quality in the field 
• provide supervision to interns and technicians

These projects will be to create on-street facilities (protected bicycle lanes, conventional bicycle lanes, median islands, pedestrian friendly geometry, rain gardens, etc.) with a focus on innovative design in a largely in retrofit environment.

The ideal candidate will bring the following preferred qualifications: 

• Experience and interest in the design of bicycle and pedestrian facilities and more generally, multimodal transportation infrastructure
