Who: Village of Homer Glen - Planning and Zoning Department
What: The Village’s Planner performs professional level planning activities including: research and analysis of technical information, assisting the public in applying planning and zoning regulations, administering the Village’s Zoning Code, coordinating development applications and site plan reviews, assisting with special and long-range planning projects, preparing text amendments to existing zoning regulations, and providing superior quality customer service. Position is responsible for providing GIS support to all Village departments. The Village’s Planner serves as staff liaison to the Village’s Plan Commission and Environment Committee. Work is performed under deadlines and requires attendance at public meetings, which are predominantly held during evening hours.

What: Under the direction of the Zoning Administrator, this position is an entry-level position responsible for performing professional, administrative, technical, regulatory and programmatic functions that are the responsibility of Planning and Zoning Division. This position examines the working plans of proposed buildings and other structures for their compliance with the City zoning ordinance; enforces the zoning regulations; makes interpretations and decisions in applying provisions to individual projects; performs zoning analyses work and other planning functions of the Planning & Zoning Division.

What: This position performs professional, technical, and administrative work related to new developments in the Village. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing varied services and assignments related to zoning administration, site plan review, project management, long-range planning, and code enforcement. The position requires strong customer service and excellent communication skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines. Strong writing skills and attention to detail required.
Work includes responsibility for providing information regarding Village codes and standards to the public; preparation of maps and other illustrative materials; and collecting planning data. The position also involves responsibility for providing technical advice and guidance to the Director of Development Services and other Village staff regarding development activity. The Planner will serve as staff liaison to the Plan Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Historic Preservation Commission. Attendance at various evening meetings is required.
