- Planner IWe are seeking a Planner I to complete entry-level planning tasks, including reviewing building permits and minor land use applications with an eye for attention to detail. Additionally, you will address customer inquiries about zoning and land use regulations. Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:- Review and process building permit for residential and commercial developments that vary in complexity, and includes plan reviews, certificate of occupancy inspections and processing financial assurances for private site improvements
- Provide service to residential and commercial building customers
- Perform planner-in-charge customer service desk duties on a rotating basis
- Respond to customer inquiries and provide assistance regarding planning, zoning, and land use regulations
- Communicate possible zoning issues to property owners and contractors, and maintain working relationships and coordination with internal and external review partners
- Scan, maintain, and upload information into City programs/systems
Knowledge of:- Methods and techniques of land use planning, zoning, and development
- Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
- Modern office technology and applications
- Geographic Information System (GIS) and project management systems
- Read and understand legal descriptions of property
- Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Manage numerous project deadlines and tasks successfully
Successful candidates will have
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in planning, geography, public administration, architecture, or a related field
Ideal candidates will also have
- Experience using GIS software
- Experience in urban planning (Note: Planning is defined as urban, regional, land use, and/or comprehensive long-range planning working with or for a municipal government.)
- Experience working in a municipal government setting
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
Additional Information
The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently.
