Who: Chicago Transit Authority
What: Under direction, supports the development of comprehensive transportation plans that serve as a guide for future transportation projects and development of long-term goals and strategic objectives for CTA. Works with other Planning staff and other departments/agencies as needed in the oversight and execution of planning and project activities pertaining to capital investments, bus and rail system improvements, transit-focused urban planning and public policy strategies, and transit-focused research regarding customer demographics, travel behavior, and preferences. Assists in all areas of Strategic Planning for the CTA.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in the development of long-range system modernization, enhancement and expansion projects.
- Performs analysis and reporting on various Planning projects.
- Coordinates with various CTA departments and staff, outside consulting services, and other governmental agencies.
- Synthesizes industry knowledge and research findings to support applications in initiatives such as corridor studies, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), rail capital projects, streetscape initiatives, Transit Oriented Development studies, and urban design.
- Assists in the development of transit funding strategies, including Federal and state grant opportunities, and other innovative financing projects.
- Represents the CTA in meetings with other government agencies.
- Assists in public outreach efforts and stakeholder coordination to support project goals.
- Assists in the management of major capital project planning studies, collection of data relevant to transit planning, and analysis of ridership and demographic data.
- Assists with review of consultant deliverables and contract management activities.
- Assists in collection of survey data and providing reports and summaries to distribute results of survey and other data analyses.
- Monitors and reports on project progress to ensure projects remain on schedule and within scope and budget.
- Prepares project reports for management review.
- Performs various ad hoc policy analysis and other related duties as assigned.
• Working knowledge of the principles and concepts of transit planning fundamentals.Working knowledge of the data and information sources relevant to transportation planning.
• Working knowledge in interpreting architectural/engineering drawings of project plans.
• Working knowledge of the methods of effective design and delivery of presentations.
• Working knowledge of project management principles and practices.
• Working knowledge of the practices and principles in economic development and land-use planning preferred.
• Working knowledge of the practices and principles in market research survey design and analysis preferred.
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to area
of work.
• General knowledge of the use and familiarity with visualization, service planning, ridership, and online survey tools.
• General knowledge and understanding of statistics. Academic/professional familiarity with statistical models/methods (inferential statistics) and intermediate SQL skills preferred.

• Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint skills.
• Intermediate GIS skills including understanding of geodatabases and experience working with large publicly available data sets preferred.

• Ability to work and produce finished work products within a short-time frame.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with Authority personnel, advisory committees, and community groups involved in the planning process.
