Associate, Programs, Delta Institute

Delta Institute is seeking an energetic environmental professional to support our work in three strategic areas – Resilient Agriculture, Nature-based Climate Solutions, and Sustainability and Support Services. An Associate should be a self-starter who enjoys working collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders while expanding their programmatic and technical skill set.

A Program Associate must be resourceful, independent, creative, and unflappable. An Associate must be comfortable supporting several projects at once and able to address day-to-day details.

To be successful in this role, an Associate needs:

  • Great communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Great organizational and time management skills, with attention to details and deadlines
  • Experience working proactively and collaboratively on a team where team members working styles can vary
  • An enthusiasm and commitment to work that is always challenging and of vital importance

 

Responsibilities include:

Technical

  • Applies specialized technical expertise to Delta project implementation and deliverables.
  • Collect quantitative and qualitative data and translate information into meaningful, high-quality deliverables
  • Research and review data from industry and scientific reports
  • Create and compile new data sources which may involve conducting surveys and phone calls
  • Integrate knowledge of innovation from one strategic area or field of study with other strategic areas
  • Create presentations and reports, as assigned
  • Work collaboratively with technical and operational staff on Delta initiatives

Program Management

  • Manage multiple tasks for a variety of projects, complete tasks on time and within the provided budget while maintaining Delta’s high standard for deliverables
  • Implement projects and/or project tasks as part of a project team
  • Participate productively in team planning and implementation meetings
  • Provide technical skills to a variety of Delta programs and consulting projects
  • Represent Delta at project and client meetings
  • External communication and coordination with partners and clients
  • Work as member of a team to conceive and develop proposals
  • Participate in the fundraising process including active solicitation of funding for programmatic initiatives
  • Possible project management, timeline, and budget creation

 

We are looking for applicants with:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, sustainability, environmental science, geography, agriculture, planning, architecture, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree in related fields is desired, though not required
  • At least 2-4 years of professional experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to synthesize complex information and concisely translate it to a variety of stakeholders and audiences
  • Ownership and accountability of assigned tasks
  • Detail oriented approach with good organizational skills, be a self-starter, motivated and enjoy working in a team environment
  • Proactive communication style, both internally and externally, especially with respect to timeline and budget
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs required
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and visualize data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and manage work in sometimes ambiguous situations

 

The physical demands of the job include:

  • Sitting: much of the work requires being at a desk, working on computer
  • Hand and finger dexterity: typing, writing
  • Talking and listening: presentations, information-gathering and general communication
  • Noise: moderate in office environment
  • Climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling: field work
  • Being able to lift and/or move 10 lbs.

Director of Programs, Delta Institute

Who: Delta Institute

What: A Director provides strategic, technical, programmatic and analytical leadership for Delta’s programs team. A Director provides leadership and mentorship to their team and is accountable for all activities and processes for their functional area. A Director provides oversight and management to initiative Leads and all functional hive staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality, on-time, and on-budget work scopes. A Director stewards the implementation of the strategic plan, and works closely with the CEO to create, implement, and iterate effective strategies to meet the goals of the organization. 

Responsibilities:

Program Development and Implementation

  • Develop and lead the strategy for one or more the program areas of Delta Institutes Strategic and Implementation Plans
  • Develop business plans to support the operations for the implementation team
  • Lead, direct and advise implementation team on programmatic initiatives, deliverables, budget and development
  • Identify development opportunities to advance innovative new programs and services to achieve Delta’s mission
  • Conceptualize and develop proposals and engage team members in proposal development
  • Manage multiple projects as necessary to ensure high quality deliverables and on time and on budget completion
  • Work closely with Program Leads to develop work plans with tasks, timeframes, milestones, resources, and dependencies
  • Facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing across the team
  • Keep informed of key policies and environmental, economic and social conditions that affect the organization. Understand near-term and long-range plans and determine how to best be positioned to achieve the mission

Financial Management

  • Understand Delta’s strategic areas and identify revenue sources to drive the vision
  • Plan, develop and accomplish budgets for programmatic work
  • Oversee efficient allocation of resources in conjunction with other team members
  • Communicate financial status and obligations of projects to CEO and management team

Staff Management

  • Inspire, motivate and guide others toward goal accomplishments. Encourage and facilitate cooperation within the organization and with stakeholder groups
  • Support an inclusive environment where diversity and innovation are valued and embrace a culture of continuous learning
  • Mentor staff and model productive working relationships

Relationship Management

  • Grow and maintain key professional affiliations in support of organizational and professional development goals
  • Leverage talents and networks of board members and key stakeholders to build organizational support and growth
  • Communicate and manage relationships with clients and stakeholders
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field with Master’s degree desirable or equivalent experience;
  • At least 10 years of management experience
  • Strong record of accomplishment as an effective manager and a skillful, innovative leader capable of delivering results
  • Deep knowledge of environmental and economic development
  • Strong demonstrated fundraising experience and/or earned income generation with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders including government, foundations, corporate sponsors, and practitioner groups
  • Ability to create and nurture a culture of continuous learning, personal accountability, creative problem solving, and collaboration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to motivate and inspire high performing staff teams, boards and committees, and partners
  • Knowledge of and a base of relationships with key stakeholders in the Great Lakes region
  • Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with demonstrated passion for Delta’s mission and commitment to working collaboratively with a leadership team
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and manage work in sometimes ambiguous situations
