The University of Illinois seeks a Network Analyst to interact with University Administration (UA) units and the University-wide client community to identify, analyze, and solve business problems and promote the value of office systems technology as related to the Desktop Support Services unit. The Network Analyst will design, build, and implement desktop systems across the enterprise and troubleshoot desktop and peripheral hardware performance issues. Additional responsibilities include:
*Duties:*
1. Provide subject matter expertise and assistance in the preparation of office system and end user computing strategies, standards and methods.
2. Participate in the integration of technology into the business processes of the University.
3. Lead projects to implement and promote integration of the administrative workstation and administrative software suite for University administrative units, utilizing local and wide area network communications resources.
4. Coordinate efforts to support UA and departmental client computing, research and evaluate emerging technology for feasibility and applicability.
5. Coordinate acquisition, installation and maintenance of hardware and software.
6. Assist in the planning and installation of network components. Work with management staff to define network objectives and plan implementation of network infrastructure. Schedule and install network components, design operating configurations, install hardware and software, and administer the operation of the system after installation.
7. Create and maintain network system documentation. Maintain a complete inventory of all computer related equipment hardware and software.
8. Create manuals, documentation, and teaching aids for the software that is provided to network users. Conduct and provide assistance in demonstrating applications software.
9. Devise testing procedures for new software and hardware to insure compatibility and integration of network data and systems.
10. Establish and maintain records of system usage, and other records needed for security purposes. Provide statistical or specialized reports as required.
11. Deploy and maintain workstations and laptops using Imaging/Deployment software, work with virus scan software/windows updates, and assist in supporting new gadgets as they come available.
12. Scheduled and participate in daytime Help Desk support as well as on-call support responsibilities for the unit outside of regular business hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
13. Devise and supervise testing procedures for new software and hardware, to ensure compatibility with existing systems and the integrity of network data and systems.
14. Interact with support vendors to resolve hardware or software issues.
*Qualifications:*
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Sciences, or related technical field and two years’ work experience with network systems are required. Other requirements include: High-level knowledge of microcomputer architecture, LAN, WAN, and TCP/IP networking; Good working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office suite of applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and Active Directory environment; the ability to support/troubleshoot problems with operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7; proficiency in oral and written communication, including the ability to communicate technical information to clients; Good decision-making and trouble-shooting skills; Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment; highly motivated and able to perform in an independent, professional manner and the ability to lift, and carry and set up computer-related equipment and cartons/packages containing computer equipment up to 50 pounds.
