The Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement (IPCE) at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for full- time position of Director of Marketing and Communications. For more information about IPCE and its mission visit http://www.ipce.uic.edu.
Position. The Director of Marketing and Communications is the unit leader for planning, developing and executing a comprehensive communication strategy and marketing program for IPCE. Under the direction of the Institute Director, the Director of Marketing and Communications serves as the chief communicator with a wide range of external and internal university audiences.
The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for leadership of five functions related to institute communications: (1) developing, implementing, and evaluating communication/marketing strategy and branding initiatives for the institute; (2) writing, editing, and overseeing the production of design publications; (3) manage institute use of current social media, website, and other technology based communication tools and serve as a subject matter expert for staff administrators and faculty on those tools; (4) serve as a cross campus and external liaison to other departments/colleges, communications professionals, offices that support communications, external partners, and media outlets; and (5) lead planning and execution of Institute events and those of partners that require communication support. The incumbent is expected to lead work in these areas at a high level of proficiency and independence, as well as supervise other staff and/or students.
Professional qualifications. Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of five years of experience in a communication role of an educational, non-profit organization, or media outlet. Demonstrated excellent writing skills including production of print and web material. Experience with website development and maintenance and with using social media as an organizational communication strategy. Experience in higher education administration strongly preferred. Familiarity with technical aspects of publications production such as graphic design and printing processes is strongly preferred.
