Assistant Professor, Tenure-Line Faculty Position
International Policy and Management
The Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington, Seattle invites
applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor without tenure
(100% FTE, Job Class 0116, 9-month appointment) with a focus in international policy and
management with an appointment to begin September 16, 2013. The Evans School of Public
Affairs is a NASPAA-accredited, nationally-ranked, internationally-competitive program
offering a professional Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree, a Ph.D. in Public Policy
and Management and an Executive MPA degree. Faculty scholarship is vigorously
encouraged with the help of strong professional development activities and opportunities to
participate in research through our own and affiliated research centers. The successful
candidate will demonstrate promise or evidence of consistently high quality research
productivity and excellence in teaching and service.
Within the broad field of international policy and/or management, areas of interest in
teaching and research are open. These include but are not limited to: economic and social
development (including micro-level analysis of poverty and development issues);;
globalization, governance, and transnational issues;; comparative public policy;; security and
foreign policy;; and management of international NGOs. We welcome applications from
scholars with teaching and research expertise in substantive policy areas in which the Evans
School has strengths, such as environmental and natural resource policy, poverty and social
policy, education, urban affairs, public and nonprofit management, financial management,
decision analysis, and international development. The position is open with regard to
methodological focus. Methodologies of particular interest include impact evaluation and
experimental methods, mixed methods, GIS, spatial or network analysis, agent-based
models, or complex systems. Candidates should be able to contribute to core instruction in
public and nonprofit management, applied microeconomics, quantitative methods, policy
analysis, and/or program evaluation, in addition to capacity in a specific substantive policy
area.
The successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for working in a multi-and
interdisciplinary environment that demands excellence in scholarship and teaching and
encourages engagement in important problems. Applicants should hold the Ph.D. or
equivalent in economics, political science, public policy or administration, international
affairs, sociology, demography, or other relevant field. Applicants should provide a formal
letter of interest indicating teaching and research interests, curriculum vitae, at least three
letters of recommendation, and samples of research work and teaching experience via mail
