This is a mid-level planning position within the
Service Planning section of Strategic Services at Pace headquarters in
Arlington Heights, Illinois. Please note that this is a one-year
position only but may be renewed. Under the direction of the Section
Manager and Supervisor of Service Planning and guidance of senior staff,
plans and implements changes in fixed routes, community transit and
paratransit services operated by Pace garages and contractors. Analyzes
route performance data from Paces intelligent bus fleet such as on-time
performance and automatic passenger counting. Conducts field work to
review current service and plan new service and calculates costs of
service changes. Participates in Pace service restructuring initiatives
whereby current service is evaluated region by region by a
cross-functional team with the goal of adjusting service to increase
ridership, revenue and speed. Should be able to understand complex
issues and be good at problem solving and making appropriate
recommendations for implementation. Investigates service inquiries from
the public and attends public meetings when needed as well as being
outstationed at one or more Pace garages several days a month. On-
the-job training and mentoring by planning staff will assist the new
hire in understanding the culture of Pace as well as all aspects of the
Service Planner I position. Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
The qualified candidate must have at least one (1) year experience in
public or private transit
planning (an internship in transportation planning can be used for the
required experience) plus a Bachelors Degree in either Urban Planning or
Transportation Planning. A Masters Degree in Urban Planning or
Transportation Planning is desirable but not necessary. Must have good
communication and interpersonal skills and be literate in the use of
ArcMap/GIS, Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point. Knowledge of Hastus
scheduling software is a plus but not necessary. Oral and written
fluency in Spanish is a definite advantage but is not required.
Qualified candidate must have a good work history and possess a valid
drivers license in order to use staff cars for field work, attend
off-property meetings or to travel to a Pace garage for outstationing.
In summary, the successful candidate must communicate well, have an
engaging personality, have excellent analytical skills, a passion for
transit planning, capable of handling all aspects of planning from
service analysis to implementation, must work fast, be able to handle a
myriad of projects simultaneously without being affected by pressure,
have total follow-through and be able to complete projects successfully.
