Student Disability Specialist/Visiting Academic Professional Full-Time
Position
Advises and meets with students to determine eligibility, ensures
documentation is appropriate, and collaborates with the DRC disability
technology specialist to provide campus access. Coordinates with the
assistive technology specialist and access consultants at the DRC and serves
as a professional resource for faculty and staff on issues related to
academic accommodations and accessibility on campus.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties include:
. Conducts individual intake interviews and ascertains needs for reasonable
academic accommodations and access to campus.
. Provides pre-enrollment advisement and develops personalized
accommodation plans.
. Addresses ongoing issues or concerns that students have related to their
disability or accommodations.
. Responds to student phone and e-mail inquiries, using various methods to
communicate and follow up with students.
. Collaborates with faculty, staff and refers outside agencies as needed to
support the needs and interests of students with disabilities.
. Attends college and community activities and relevant professional groups
and events to maintain current knowledge of disability-related laws,
scientific literature regarding diagnoses and accommodations and higher
education disability programs
. Communicates disability policies and regulations to students and faculty
. Reviews medical records to confirm/verify disability.
. Evaluates diagnostic documentation and meet with students to determine
reasonable disability-related accommodation.
. Assesses and determines reasonable disability-related accommodations.
. Works closely with assistive technology specialist for appropriate
technology solutions.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Master Degree in Disability Studies, Education, Special Education,
Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation
Counseling and other related fields
