Job Description: Policy Assistant
Background
LISC is a national non-profit intermediary that provides
financial and technical assistance to community-based organizations, public
agencies and private (for-profit) entities focused on the comprehensive redevelopment
of urban neighborhoods and rural communities, helping them to transform
distressed neighborhood into healthy and sustainable communities. LISC has offices in 30 different cities and
works with over 60 rural partner organizations to assist in the development of
affordable multi-family and senior rental housing, for-sale housing and
homeownership initiatives, commercial enterprises, community facilities and
various community-building programs such as employment, day care, health care
and open space.
LISC’s Policy Office is located in Washington, D.C. It is responsible for developing
LISC’s federal policy agenda; communicating this agenda to LISC employees,
board members, funders, and other stakeholders; and pursuing this agenda
through engagement with federal policy makers and their staffs.
The LISC
Policy Office is seeking a creative and energetic person to support our efforts
to enhance our national and local advocacy strategies.
Responsibilities

Working
with senior members of the Policy Office to support policy development, Federal
advocacy and related outreach to the field;
·
Conducing
research on policy and advocacy issues, and helping senior staff in the
development of issue papers and policy briefs;
·
Developing
and maintaining databases relevant to our work with Congress and our local
partners;
·
Scheduling
meetings with Hill staff and preparing supporting documents for those meetings;
·
Tracking
and monitoring identified appropriations and authorization items on the Hill;
·
Attending
coalition meetings and congressional hearings when needed;
·
Providing
administrative support work, including but not limited to:
o
handling
travel arrangements connected to advocacy efforts and Team travel to LISC local
areas;
o
filling
out expense and lobbying-disclosure reports for senior members of the Policy
Office; and
o
providing
logistical support for briefings, forums and other events organized by the LISC
Policy office or its partners.
Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate for the position will have the
following qualifications and experience:

Bachelors
degree in political science, communications, social work, city and regional
planning or other related field;
·
Excellent
communication skills, written and oral;
·
Excellent
research and organizational skills;
·
Strong
interpersonal skills;
·
Excellent
judgment, maturity, integrity and a strong work ethic;
·
Collaborative
spirit and willingness to work with a team;
·
A
strong commitment to affordable housing and related community development
issues;
·
Related
job experience is a plus.
Job Specifications:
This position will be located in Washington, D.C. Some travel may be required. Salary will be commensurate with
qualifications. LISC provides a competitive salary and excellent fringe
