The Department of Housing and Economic Development is seeking students who
want to acquire knowledge and valuable work experience in public sector/city
government operations while assisting with various duties in the Permit Review
unit within the Historic Preservation Division. The Historic Preservation Division is
responsible for staffing the Commission on Chicago Landmarks, a nine-person
commission appointed by the Mayor and City Council to recommend Chicago
Landmarks to City Council. The Division also provides general assistance to the
larger Department and to other City agencies when city-assisted projects
involving historic properties are reviewed. The Permit Review unit reviews prepermit
and permit applications concerning proposed work to landmark buildings
and properties in landmark districts.
As an intern, you will gain a unique insight into the workings of city government.
The ideal student is highly motivated and dedicated to improving public service
while obtaining "hands-on work experience in a fast paced environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a current college level junior,
senior or graduate school student in good academic standing, enrolled in
an accredited four year college or university offering a baccalaureate or
graduate degree program or an accredited law school. Must have a
minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.S on a 4.0 grading scale or
a 3.S on a 5.0 grading scale.
NOTE: A cumulative GPA of 2.S on a 4.0 grading scale or a 3.S on a S.O
grading scale must be maintained throughout the duration of
internship/employment if hired.
PREFERENCE: Students majoring in Architecture, Historic Preservation, Urban
Planning, Materials-Conservation, Architectural History, Art History, or related
fields.
NOTE: Intern will report, primarily, to the Director of Permit Review in the
Historic Preservation Division, but may also be assigned duties by other
designation unit staff or other Historic Preservation Division staff.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Not required
SALARY: Unpaid - may be used to obtain academic credit.
These are temporary positions.
HOURS: 21hrs/wk minimum. Hours are flexible to meet the needs of the student
and the department.

DUTIES: Responsibilities of the Historic Preservation Permit Review Intern may
include: assisting permit reviewers with review process, data entry, file
management, property research, site visits, and scope of work analysis. Other
duties related to the work of the larger Historic Preservation Division as assigned.
Skills Requested
o Experience using computer software such as: Microsoft Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint. Adobe Pagemaker and Photoshop would be a Plus
o Familiarity with reading architectural plans and/or construction
documents a Plus
o Knowledge of Chicago architecture and history would be a Plus
o Must be reliable, organized and have a positive attitude.
o Attention to detail; proactive in issue resolution and seeking solutions
o Good verbal and written communication is essential as this work can be
fast paced

The Support Services Director oversees the design and delivery of bundled services by JARC CWF staff. The director leads the agency’s effort to attain and document performance metrics using Efforts to Outcomes (ETO). The director leads the agency efforts to launch a third, new job training program focused on IT as per the agency’s Strategic Plan 2011-2014.

Graphic Design and New Media Intern

WE is seeking a Graphic Design and New Media Intern to support the Marketing Communications Department. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to gain work experience in non-profit marketing, communications, and design.
Responsibilities:
Developing images and infographics that support Women Employed’s public education and advocacy work.
Developing banners, buttons, and other images for use in e-communications, our website and social media.
Designing and laying out print pieces.
Opportunity to create and edit videos for event promotions and e-campaigns.
Working with the Marketing and Communications Department on other marketing, design, communications, and social media projects as needed.
Position Requirements:
Enrolled in a design or new media academic program, or have professional design experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Pro-active; able to work with minimal supervision
Flexible; comfortable juggling multiple tasks
Exceptional attention to detail
Positive, team-oriented attitude
Experience or familiarity with design for electronic setting and use
Expertise or familiarity with Adobe design software
Proficient with basic Microsoft Office programs
Interest in women’s social and economic justice issues
Familiarity with video editing software preferred.
10-15 hours/week. $1,500 stipend and/or class credit offered for fall semester – September 1 through December 15. Hours and dates are flexible and negotiable.

2. Two years of professional level accounting, managerial and/or business experience, one year of which was at an administrative level
3. Relevant experience in a higher education setting preferably with experience in research administrative policies.
