Who: The University of Illinois at Chicago, Office of Sustainability is seeking to fill a Publicity-Promotion Specialist position (37.5 hours/week).

What: Under administrative direction, the Publicity-Promotion Specialist develops and oversees the Energy Conscious Campus program, publicizing and promoting this social marketing initiative to create behavior change in the campus community to reduce energy consumption. The Specialist will develop, implement, and measure the success of the Energy Conscious Campus Marketing Plan whose goal is to achieve and maintain a 1.5% reduction in campus energy use. They will also take complex energy consumption data and greenhouse gas emissions data and translate it into informational material that is understandable by faculty, staff, students, and the general public. They will use various media to communicate the information – oral, graphic, written and electronic. Specific responsibilities include:

Senior Policy Analyst – Future Energy Enterprises (Chicago)

Who: Future Energy Enterprises, LLC

What: The Senior Policy Analyst will handle an array of responsibilities to support facilitation of statewide low-income energy efficiency advisory committees (Income Qualified Advisory Committees – one in Northern Illinois and one serving Southern Illinois) in Illinois including meeting planning; communications and outreach to participants; tracking follow-up and action items; and providing background research and analytic support, when needed. Some travel is required for the purpose of attending large group meetings and individual meetings with committee participants. The position will require reaching out, in person and by phone, to community-based organizations and other leaders who serve economically-challenged communities, Environmental Justice communities and diverse communities. The Senior Policy Analyst may also support other energy consulting work for Future Energy Enterprises.

Elevate Energy is hiring a Data Analyst. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in GIS and the ability to automate analysis processes. He/she will lead geospatial analysis for the organization. He/she will provide technical analysis and research support to Elevate Energy Research and Innovation, and less frequently, Executive staff, as well as program staff. Additionally, she/he may be asked to perform literature reviews and qualitative research. She/he must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and have excellent project management skills. The Analyst will communicate regular project/program updates and results to internal stakeholders, and less frequently, to external stakeholders. The Analyst will work on teams, sometimes playing a lead role and other times a support role. This position resides within the Research and Innovation team, and will act as a liaison with the Technology team. Therefore, candidates do not need to have advanced developer skills, but should feel confident discussing concepts related to script development. The candidate should be able to manage ad hoc requests as well as manage long term data management and analysis processes.
Accountability

The Data Analyst will work across program areas and will report to the Senior Research Analyst at Elevate Energy, who reports to Director of Research. He/she will serve as project lead on some initiatives, and as a member of a team led by other Elevate Energy Research or Program staff.
Responsibilities

Data Analysis

• Identifies, researches, compiles, cleans and evaluates datasets
• Leads geospatial analysis, and leads design and implementation of geospatial projects
• Assists in the design and implementation of qualitative and quantitative data analysis projects
• Prepare, plans, executes, and update map requests including static and interactive web maps using ArcGIS
• Vector and raster analysis including LiDAR data processing
• Relational database development and management using Esri Geodatabases and SQL Server Management Studio
• Experience with spatial data creation, including geo-referencing, geocoding, address locator development, and editing existing geodatabases
• GIS process automation using Model builder and Python
• Performs data enrichment including complex joins using spatial and tabular data
• Ability to research and apply GIS best practices for map and data requests
• Documents technical methodologies and processes in research files and Elevate SOP manuals.
• Assists Elevate program staff with technical and other support as requested to complete deliverables, improve efficiency and inform business unit decision making

Research

• Produces charts, graphs and maps that describe and interpret findings, and efficiently and effectively reveal spatial and statistical relationships
• Presents and documents analysis and findings in writing, and visually and orally as appropriate
• Contributes materials to reports, publications and proposals
• Writes portions of reports, briefs and analysis that describe and interpret findings

General

• Clearly communicates knowledge and findings to internal and external clients, and represent the Research & Innovation unit and Elevate Energy in a professional manner
• Assesses status of projects, identifies actual or potential problems with data or research projects, and facilitates solutions–in consultation with project lead and/or supervisor
• Responds professionally to feedback from clients, team members and management
• Maintains required job knowledge and skills and core professional competencies
• Attends and participates in staff inter-departmental teams and staff meetings
• Other duties as necessary

Qualifications/Skills

• Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) and 2+ years of work experience in energy and/or geography, cartography, GIS, or planning
• Proficiency in Esri GIS Products (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Online)
• Proficiency in SQL Database development and querying
• Demonstrated ability using Tableau to visualize data desired
• Proficiency with design software such as Adobe illustrator to create presentation quality graphics
• Proficiency in Stata or a demonstrated ability to learn new statistical analysis software
• Some knowledge of C++ or Javscript is a plus
• Project management experience a plus
• Experience with Salesforce desired, and Esri Maps for Salesforce a plus
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Must be able to communicate technical and research findings to wide range of stakeholders.
• Exceptional critical thinking, management and project coordination skills, and ability to work independently and on a team
• Experience working in or with nonprofit sector desired

TransitCenter, a civic foundation committed to improving urban mobility, seeks a Program Analyst to join its New York City office. The successful candidate will be an integral member of a unique, dynamic, and growing organization and contribute research; develop and implement programs and projects related to improving transportation in cities; administer grants; and build organizational capacity.

Responsibilities

As part of a team, the Program Analyst will research issues, develop opportunities, and execute projects that promote sustainable urban mobility, with oversight from senior staff. Some projects may be executed through the use of program consultants with specialized subject matter expertise, who the Program Analyst must be qualified to oversee. An initial primary area of focus draws on a diversity of topics such as transit planning, technology, rider information, or capital project finance. While specific assignments will be shaped in part by the Program Analyst's particular background, a successful candidate will have avid interest and versatility to work on a range of other transportation-related subjects as assigned.

The Program Analyst will also share responsibility for communicating TransitCenter's initiatives through articles, blog posts, and social media.

TransitCenter's is a small but growing organization, so the Program Analyst may also be expected to play a hands-on role in operations and shoulder a portion of the organization's administrative and clerical duties as assigned.

The position is based in New York City. The salary range is $55-70,000 commensurate with experience, with a competitive benefits package.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

• Fundamental understanding of the principles underpinning sustainable urban mobility and an intuitive appreciation of the role that transportation plays in contributing to urban vitality. While technical knowledge of transit can be a plus, it is not a requirement, and is secondary to natural curiosity and passion for the mission.
• Keen critical thinking, with an ability to scan developments in research or case studies, make connections across disciplines, and draw hypotheses and/or rigorously-supported conclusions.
• Research capacity to build a case through solid evidence. General knowledge of common primary and secondary sources for issues related to urbanization and transportation.
• A background in the methods and practice of civic action and/or philanthropy will be considered a plus.
• Excellent writing and presentation skills and a strategic communications mindset. Because our work intends to influence public policy, design, practice, and culture, how something is communicated is nearly as important as what is being presented.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills will be useful in project implementation.
• A bachelor's or master's degree in a field related to urban planning, public policy, development, business, or economics; we strongly invite applicants with undergraduate degrees in the humanities, physical sciences or liberal arts to apply if they additionally possess a master's degree or work experience related to urban transportation.
• At least 3-5 years of professional experience in an organization related to urban planning and development, civic activism, transportation, the environment, and/or public policy.
• Technical facility with at least one of the following will be favorable: Adobe Creative Suite, GIS, social media, or web publishing.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to form connections with people from diverse backgrounds, flexibility, and a sense of humor to add to the organization as it evolves.
