Applications are now being accepted for the positions of Development Service Manager and Transit Planner in the Augusta Planning and Development Department
  • Position: Development Services Manager
  • Starting Annual Salary: $58,227 DOQ.
Manages the processing of development projects and plans in accordance with established policies and procedures. Establishes a work plan and supervises the daily activities of assigned staff in completing activities related to development review. The person in this position works directly with a variety of stakeholders, property owners, developers, design professionals and others to complete these activities.
Supervises current planning staff and the application and review process related to development review of subdivisions and site plans, rezoning, special exceptions, variances from the zoning regulations and the issuance of development permits, and interprets the application of codes and ordinances to these projects. This includes the issuance of special use permits, grading permits and flood plain development permits.
Drafts amendments to development codes and ordinances. Coordinates the procedural review and adoption of the amendments. Coordinates plan review with city departments and other reviewing agencies.
Qualifications:Master’s degree in planning, landscape architecture or related field plus six years of professional experience in planning and development review, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Position: Transit Planner
  • Starting Annual Salary: $44,580 DOQ
This is a full-time, permanent position responsible for completing transit planning work tasks as part of the Augusta Regional Transportation Study (ARTS). Under the general supervision of the Strategic Long Range Planning Manager, develops transit plans, transit service programs, identifies funding sources, prepares grant applications and completes various tasks included in the Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP), Transit Development Plan and Long range Transportation Plan; develops and monitor Transit Program of Projects for the Augusta Regional Transportation Study (ARTS). The person in this position works closely with other planners, transportation stakeholders and the general public. Provides updates on transit planning and administrative activities to ARTS committees and the general public.
Provides transit planning and FTA grant assistance to Augusta Public Transit as necessary; prepares grant applications, submits transit planning and capital/operating grants; prepares, monitors and submits required progress and budget reports; and coordinates activities with local, state, regional and federal partners, coordinates with other transit providers in the ARTS area. Monitors state and federal transit legislation and regulations, and revises local procedures in response to changes.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business, or closely related field of study required, plus at least three (3) years of work experience in transportation or transit planning, or a closely-related field, with federal grant management experience.
