City Administrator of Washington, Iowa

We are currently seeking highly qualified managers for the position of the City Administrator of Washington, Iowa. As an academic in this field in the Iowa, we felt you might wish to recommend individuals who may be qualified and interested in this recruitment.

The City of Washington, Iowa, a historic, stand alone community located in southeastern Iowa, seeks experienced, progressive candidates to serve as the City Administrator. The City Administrator reports to the Mayor and six Council Members. With a population of 7,266 (2010), Washington is centrally located just 30 minutes south of Iowa City/Coralville. Washington, founded in 1839, is the county seat of Washington County. Washington is a unique community with many strengths. In addition, the community is enriched by the colorful surrounding towns and the neighboring Iowa City metro Area.

The City is seeking energetic candidates with successful background of service as a city administrator, assistant administrator, or in similar public sector position. A proven track record in financial management and budgeting, human resource management, team building and intergovernmental relations is required for the position. The elected officials have identified a strong emphasis on management, interpersonal and consensus building skills. The City has 49 full time and 25 part time employees with a total operating budget in 2011 of $9.3 million.
