Performance Measurement Intern Position Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Performance Measurement Intern leads the creation of business cases for new cost-savings and revenue-enhancement opportunities related to the policies and business practices of the Illinois Tollway, a government organization that is responsible for over $600 million in annual revenues, the operation of a capital program funded at almost $6 billion, and the provision of tolling, road maintenance, and safety services to over 1.4 million drivers daily. The Performance Measurement Intern works closely with the Tollway management team to identify new opportunities, analyze the new opportunities using data and benchmarking, and develop compelling business cases that include a comparative analysis of options with respect to cost, timeframes, and other key considerations.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Performance Measurement Intern reports to the General Manager of Performance Measurement and has no subordinates.
The Performance Measurement Intern is responsible for leading all aspects of business case development around opportunities for cost-savings and revenue-enhancement that are identified in collaboration with Tollway Management. Business case development involves the collection and analysis of quantitative data (typically using Excel), the collection and analysis of qualitative data (typically involving literature reviews and the "interviewing" of key Tollway personnel or the personnel of similar organizations for the purpose of benchmarking), and the determination of expected return on investment. Business case development also involves creating charts, graphs, and PowerPoint presentations to support the relevant findings, comparative options analysis, and recommendations.
The Performance Measurement Intern also is responsible for planning and implementing reports related to the Tollway-wide performance management initiative. This involves the identification of relevant data, the development of report formats, the development of reporting structures, and planning for the development of a dynamic management "dashboard" that is web-enabled.
REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree is required. Intern is expected to be a current candidate for a Masters Degree in the area of business, public policy, or a related field. Excellent knowledge of Excel and other statistical programs (e.g, SPSS) is required. Previous work experience related to data analysis is strongly preferred.
