Job Summary

What: The Illinois Public Health Institute (IPHI) is seeking an experienced, passionate, and well-organized team member to manage various aspects of the Alliance for Health Equity. The position will support program operations, coordinate with partners, and work with the center director and program director to implement strategies for workgroups and collaborative initiatives of the Alliance, with a primary focus on supporting the Alliance’s structural and social determinants of health and policy portfolio.

The Alliance for Health Equity is a collaboration of 30+ hospitals working with community partners and health departments to improve health equity, wellness, and quality of life across Cook County from the neighborhoods of Chicago to the municipalities of the suburbs. What: ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY: Grassroots Collaborative (501c3) builds power with working families through strategic community-labor organizing, grassroots leadership development, civic engagement, and research. We organize to win progressive policies and systems change that improve the lives of low-to-moderate income people and communities of color. We utilize popular education to build consciousness, and build organization that unites residents, community and labor organizations to create transformative change for a more just society. Our affiliated 501c4, Grassroots Illinois Action, works to build community political power through issue advocacy and electoral strategies. We are based in 2 locations, Chicago and Peoria.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Grassroots Collaborative engages in campaigns to make corporations, big banks, and the rich pay their fair share. Our member organizations are facing the combined impact of public financial crises (state and city budgets) and decades of disinvestment from communities of color. In the summer of 2017 we launched an initiative to begin building labor-community alliances in additional Illinois cities, beyond Chicago, to grow the power of working families and communities of color beyond Chicago and across the state. This was the origin of the Peoria People’s Project (P3), which was launched with founding members Peoria Federation of Teachers, Change Peoria and SEIU Healthcare IL&IN. The Peoria People’s Project seeks to win economic and racial justice for working families in the Peoria area, through issue organizing, voter engagement and effective labor-community coalition building.

Assistant Commissioner - Chicago Community Land Trust

What: Under supervision, the Project Manager is the lead staff person for the Chicago Community Land Trust (CCLT) Homeownership Program and works under the direction of a Board of Directors to preserve long-term affordable home ownership opportunities for an increasing number of families in the City of Chicago

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Works to identify and evaluate properties and development opportunities for inclusion in the CCLT’s portfolio Actively works to create partnerships with non-profit and for profit developers to create low to moderate income affordable homeownership opportunities for the CCLT

  • Conducts outreach to City officials, public and private sector organizations to advise them of the operations and functions of the CCLT 
  • Manages the stewardship responsibilities of CCLT in preserving and sustaining the affordability and desirability of CCLT homes

Director of Business and Economic Development - North Branch Works

What: North Branch Works (NBW) is a membership-supported nonprofit organization that has promoted job-creating economic development along the North Branch of the Chicago River for more than 35 years. NBW is also a City of Chicago “delegate agency” providing services to a wide array of businesses and advocating for environmentally and economically sustainable development in the North Branch, Addison, Kennedy business corridors and surrounding communities.

The Director of Business & Economic Development will build and maintain relationships with local companies and the community through outreach and marketing of city and business services, explore and document company needs, and connect them to solutions. This job requires a multi-tasking professional with strong communications skills, the ability to meet deadlines, with a background in urban planning, economic development, and outreach to implement a variety of community-based programs and business development services.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct outreach to firms in our service area to explore/obtain/explain issues related to business retention/expansion; work with company leadership to resolve issues resulting in retention that supports private investment and job creation.
  • Assist with new-member recruitment and member retention. Help plan member events and update membership marketing materials. Work with Executive Director to set target membership goals.
  • Write, edit and produce our monthly e-newsletter. Compose and gather relevant articles for the e- newsletter including new member stories and features. Ask staff for articles on their programs, events, and seek additional relevant info to include in e-news.
  • Work with Executive Director to prepare and submit contract budget and workplan documents in coordination with the Department of Planning and Development and the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection.
  • Manage City delegate agency contracts. Track and report monthly and quarterly progress on contracts including business outreach, economic development programs, and real estate listings for our area.
  • Work with the local real estate community to market space in our area and address expansion/relocation needs of area businesses. Assist with area land use planning and development initiatives.
  • Update NBW’s website with business incentives, real estate, membership info, events, and other relevant info as needed.
  • Update social media by tweeting and making Facebook posts at least once a week and as needed.
  • Help create and plan networking events, business workshops and fundraisers.
  • Attend meetings with elected officials, stakeholder groups, represent NBW in public. 
Required Skills
