Active Transportation Planner - Minnesota Department of Transportation

Who: Minnesota Department of Transportation

What: To provide professional planning support and analysis related to for the Office of Transit and Active Transportation’s statewide multimodal planning activities. To support coordination with partners and provide coordination for implementation of initiatives tied to walking, bicycling, and transit in Minnesota and within MnDOT.

Qualifications: One (1) years professional experience that demonstrates the following are required: (below)

** A bachelor’s degree Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, Political Science substitutes for one year of experience.
  • Knowledge of basic theory and practice of planning and/or transportation 
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis with spreadsheets or database applications 
  • Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to prepare written documents and establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners 
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research techniques 
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, etc) 
  •  Organizational skills to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A graduate degree or certificate in planning, geography, urban studies, public policy or other related field 
  • Professional planning or policy experience working in government at the local, metropolitan or state level 
  • Professional experience in public engagement, market research, communications, community organizing or other related field 
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Dreamweaver 
  • Working knowledge of GIS.
