Public Policy Manager – Uber (Chicago)

Who: Uber – Public Policy Team

What: The public policy team is responsible for working with policy makers and third parties to make the positive case for change.  That’s partly about building lasting relationships in the cities where we operate with elected officials and their staff so they understand the benefits of this new model.  It also about figuring out the best local regulatory framework and then developing campaigns to push reform through.
As Public Policy Manager, you will manage public policy, government relations, and third-party engagement for Uber throughout several states in the Central US, including Chicago and IL. You will report to the Director of Public Affairs in the Central US. Responsibilities include:
  • Manage and lead a regional public policy effort, developing strategies for keeping markets open, and opening new ones
  • Analyze existing and proposed laws and regulations for impact on Uber or our transportation partners.
  • Design regulatory and legislative proposals in support of our business strategies
  • Directly engage policymakers, their staffs to educate them about Uber's business model and vision
  • Craft and execute a third party engagement strategy aimed at developing Uber’s champions in the communities we serve
Qualifications:

  • At least seven years experience working in government affairs, political campaigns, or public policy - open to candidates who’ve been leaders in other careers (e.g. attorneys, media communications, consultancy) and may be looking for a career change.
  • The ability to distill complex ideas into simple, but intellectually credible, arguments.  You’ll need to write well and have the ability to tell stories
  • A strong campaigner
  • A team player
  • A self-starter
