Who: Illinois Department of Transportation, Office of Intermodal Project Implementation, Chicago
What: This position is responsible for ongoing assistance to the State Safety Oversight Section by synthesizing information, conducting research, and developing safety performance indicators in rail transit safety activities, as well as performing inspections, audits, assessments, and studies as necessary.
The incumbent supports all aspects of the State Safety Oversight (SSO) Section. The incumbent conducts complex technical and analytical research, special audits and investigations, as well as technical studies and recommends alternatives on a broad range of issues involving safety oversight for rail fixed guideway public transportation systems. The incumbent will make recommendations using the development of performance measures to improve rail transit safety, consistent with the principles of Safety Management Systems. This position prepares written and oral reports and briefings for department management on a wide range of highly complex issues related to rail transit safety oversight. The position will also ensure compliance with federal requirements for financial management and reporting.

Who: Muse Community + Design is hiring a Community Planner to support the overall implementation of the Chicago Department of Transportation’s traffic safety and education program, with a strong emphasis on bicycle and pedestrian safety.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Transportation Researcher, The UNC Highway Safety Research Center - Chapel Hill, NC
The UNC Highway Safety Research Center is hiring a pedestrian and bicycle transportation researcher.
The position is a full-time, non-tenure track appointment. The successful candidate will bring passion and experience in transportation safety and pedestrian and bicycle transportation research and provide leadership for such programs at HSRC. This individual will work with other senior HSRC leadership and the pedestrian and bicycle research staff to sustain and grow existing research programs, to develop new programs of research and training to address emerging issues and technology, and to foster the research culture of HSRC by mentoring young researchers at the Center. The individual selected will be responsible for developing research ideas, designing studies, managing projects and programs, and developing proposals to secure funding for future work

We are seeking a full-time Senior Transportation Planner to join our growing Fargo, North Dakota Office.
The Transportation Planner will collaborate with local and regional SRF leadership to continue building and sustaining a successful regional planning practice. This role will often involve internal coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and will primarily involve coordination with city, county and state clients.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the development of a variety of transportation and land use planning projects including corridor studies, transportation plans, pedestrian and bicycle plans, land use plans, walkability analyses, transportation safety, access management, development of socioeconomic data projections for use by travel demand modelers, comprehensive plans, and policy development
- Assist in the supervision and guidance of other planners
- Report and memo writing
- Public presentations
- Coordination with team members on the use of GIS for project planning and deployment
- Assist with client contacts and business development
- Development of proposals,project scopes and budgets, and interview presentations
- Quality assurance of maps,graphics, GIS products, and written materials prepared by junior staff
- Staff development and mentoring
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in planning and or transportation/civil engineering or closely related field
- Minimum 10 years planning-related experience
- Professional registration or certification is highly desired
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional project management capabilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of land use and transportation issues
- Strong analytical skills
- Proven technical writing ability
- Excellent interpersonal and public communication skills
- Proficiency in a number of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets and database software
