Who: Muse Community + Design is hiring a Community Planner to support the overall implementation of the Chicago Department of Transportation’s traffic safety and education program, with a strong emphasis on bicycle and pedestrian safety.
What: The Community Planner will be a qualified individual with a degree in urban planning or equivalent field, and a strong command of Chicago’s Complete Streets and Vision Zero principles. The position will require regular interaction with CDOT and other city staff, elected officials, community organizations and residents.
This individual will play an instrumental role in outreach to partner organizations and communities throughout Chicago. The Community Planner will be responsible for coordination with stakeholders on the creation of community plans and continued engagement strategies. This individual is also responsible for organizing and facilitating the Mayor’s Bicycle Advisory Committee (MBAC) and Mayor’s Pedestrian Advisory Committee (MPAC) meetings. In addition, the Community Planner will support education and encouragement events on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will:
• Be highly organized and self-motivated
• Be a creative thinker and problem-solver
• Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Have a demonstrated interest in and experience working with diverse communities
• The ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing team, and comfort managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Desired Skills
• 1-3 years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides equivalent background sufficient to perform the position duties).
• Professional experience in community outreach, events, public engagement and/or community organizing.
• Strong knowledge of the City of Chicago, its neighborhoods, and mobility issues including Vision Zero.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite required.
• Proficiency with GIS preferred.
The position is full-time and will be based at CDOT offices at 30 N. LaSalle Street.
