DEPARTMENT: EDUCATION AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT

For more than 40 years, NORC has been committed to conducting high quality education research and technical assistance that helps improve student outcomes. The Education and Child Development department's research covers the full array of education-relevant populations, from pre-school children to the post-graduate doctorate holders.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects and proposals, coordinating with applicable departments across the organization (human resources, information technology, grants & contracts, finance and accounting, research, and communications)
  • Manage budgets, schedules, timelines, and communications working with project leadership to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet the scope of work
  • Develop detailed project plans to monitor and track progress
  • Oversee the day-to-day performance of all members of the project/task team, including staff workload and assignments
  • Coordinate and assist with administrative tasks including executing subcontract and consultant agreements; vendor agreements; purchase order agreements; processing invoices; institutional review board applications for human subjects’ protections; etc.
  • Manage and facilitate client, vendor, and other third-party relationships
  • Convey relevant project information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop presentation decks, coordinate the drafting of project reports, and edit documents for clarity and conciseness
  • Engage in business development activities including responding to requests for proposals (RFPs), and tracking of business development activities and status

 

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; masters in social sciences, public health or policy, or other relevant discipline preferred
  • Strong problem solving and critical reasoning skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills
  • Diligent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to prioritize projects and/or tasks in alignment with larger strategic objectives
  • Solid writing skills

Assistant Director, Career Readiness - University of Chicago

Who: Career Services works with students, alumni, and potential employers to develop and implement programs and advising focused on students' career development.P2: Requires knowledge and experience in own discipline; still acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills. Builds knowledge of the organization, processes and customers. Solves a range of straightforward problems. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. What: Assistant Director of Career Readiness

The job assists in the design and implementation of advisory programs focused on students' career developments.

1) Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers., 2) Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings., 3) Develops original content for career related publications and assists with the editing and distribution of Career Services communications materials., 4) Provides guidance and training to student career counselor interns., 5) Performs other related work as needed.

As a key member of the Harris School of Public Policy’s Career Development Office, the Assistant Director of Career Readiness will provide assistance to ensure that Harris graduate students have the necessary strategies to explore career options, as well as career decision-making skills to identify opportunities that align with their personal self-exploration and life-long career goals.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Readiness, the Assistant Director will deliver exceptional career advising/coaching and instruction to support Harris MPP students on long-term and immediate job search objectives for full-time positions and summer internships within specific industries or sectors. Sample areas of policy work and social impact include; Consulting, Public Finance, Finance, Energy and Environmental Policy, Healthcare Policy, Housing Policy, Education Policy, International Development, International Relations, Social Enterprise, Technology and Innovation, and Social Entrepreneurship.

Policy Fellow - Institute for Justice (U of Chicago)

Who: The Institute for Justice Clinic on Entrepreneurship at the University of Chicago Law School seeks a bright and dedicated person to join our team as a Policy Fellow. Part of the Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, the IJ Clinic provides free legal assistance for low-income entrepreneurs in Chicago and advocates for legal reforms so that entrepreneurs in Chicago have the freedom to pursue their dreams. For example, the IJ Clinic has successfully advocated to legalize food carts, to simplify the permit process for business signs, and to lighten the regulatory burdens for children’s play centers, computer centers, and home-based businesses.

What: The IJ Clinic seeks to expand its capacity for policy advocacy by adding a fellow to our team who is dedicated exclusively to supporting the IJ Clinic’s policy work. The Policy Fellow will work closely with the IJ Clinic’s two supervising attorneys and community relations coordinator to support and guide the IJ Clinic’s policy endeavors at both the city and state level.

This is an exciting opportunity to help guide the future of the IJ Clinic’s advocacy efforts through policy research and to provide our projects with the ammunition we need to change the laws that create unnecessary barriers for entrepreneurs. Director of Programs and Engagement - University of Chicago Medicine’s Center for Asian Health Equity

Who: The University of Chicago Medicine's Center for Asian Health Equity is the only research center in the Midwest to address the diverse health care needs of Asian Americans and other immigrant populations. The Center builds teams that span disciplines and sectors across the University and diverse Asian American and other immigrant communities to address health disparities, translate evidence into practical interventions, conduct public education, and use data to inform health policy. A vital part of the Center's mission is its strong and sustained community engagement with more than 25 Asian American organizations across the Chicago metropolitan area. Through this engagement, the Center elevates Asian American voices and enhances Asian American representation in conducting and participating in community-engaged research. The Center fulfills a critical need to improve the health of these underserved populations to advance health equity.

What: The Director of Programs and Engagement will work closely with the Centers Director, Executive Director, and other senior staff in leading the administration of programs and development of strategic partnerships with community-based organizations, educational institutions, and local government departments, as well as the engagement with these key stakeholders. The role will help strengthen the capacity of and services for communities.

Program Coordinator for The Institute of Politics, University of Chicago

Job Summary:

The Institute of Politics (IOP) at the University of Chicago seeks a highly organized, detail-oriented Program Coordinator with a passion for students, an interest in politics, and a commitment to excellence in the operation of its student civic engagement programs. This is a temporary position for the 2017-18 academic year, reporting to the Director of Civic & Campus Engagement.

The Program Coordinator works closely with students and with the Director of Civic and Campus Engagement to provide key administrative support to the IOP’s Civic Engagement programs, including expense and invoice reconciliation, processing check requests, budget and metrics tracking, third-party purchases, student-led event planning, venue booking, travel arrangements, and RSVP processes for IOP Civic Engagement programs, workshops and events.

The Program Coordinator works closely with Institute staff, University colleagues, students, vendors, Fellows and guests, ensuring that programs, processes and protocols are executed with precision and professionalism at all times.



The Program Coordinator has primary responsibility for the following:

• Provides administrative support and coordination for student civic engagement initiatives, political treks, special projects and student leadership programs at the IOP, including Leaders of Color, Tech Team, and Women in Public Service Program.

• Tracks and reconciles Civic Engagement program expenses and including transportation and travel costs, vendor payments and invoices to ensure accurate accounting and budget management at all times; Administers petty cash and check request processes.

• Oversees and supports student led programs by advising on program goals and execution, troubleshooting administrative/technical questions, assisting with access to resources such as reserving space, third party-purchases, etc.

• Oversees Civic Engagement interns responsible for identifying and securing venues, catering orders and AV arrangements necessary for the successful execution of Civic Engagement workshops, seminars, and student program meetings.

• Advises student leaders on event planning and oversees and supports student led programs by attending meetings and events.

• Assists with the planning and execution of on-site logistics, staffing and troubleshooting for Civic Engagement projects and special events;

• Collaborates with IOP partners on and off campus to ensure program operations and budgets are executed fairly, transparently and accurately

• Manages IOP’s Civic Engagement Program & Finance Interns.

• Makes necessary travel and logistical arrangements in support of IOP Political Exploration treks and special projects, including but not limited to an annual student visit to the Illinois state capitol and to Harvard University; international student treks, and Project Eureka

• Manages RSVP and application processes for IOP treks and student civic engagement programs

• Works with Communications staff to generate surveys that solicit regular feedback of student program participants and tracks resulting data.

• Performs administrative duties and assists with special projects when needed
