Who: Career Services works with students, alumni, and potential employers to develop and implement programs and advising focused on students' career development.P2: Requires knowledge and experience in own discipline; still acquiring higher-level knowledge and skills. What: Assistant Director of Career Readiness

The job assists in the design and implementation of advisory programs focused on students' career developments.

1) Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers., 2) Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings., 3) Develops original content for career related publications and assists with the editing and distribution of Career Services communications materials., 4) Provides guidance and training to student career counselor interns., 5) Performs other related work as needed.

As a key member of the Harris School of Public Policy’s Career Development Office, the Assistant Director of Career Readiness will provide assistance to ensure that Harris graduate students have the necessary strategies to explore career options, as well as career decision-making skills to identify opportunities that align with their personal self-exploration and life-long career goals.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Readiness, the Assistant Director will deliver exceptional career advising/coaching and instruction to support Harris MPP students on long-term and immediate job search objectives for full-time positions and summer internships within specific industries or sectors. Sample areas of policy work and social impact include; Consulting, Public Finance, Finance, Energy and Environmental Policy, Healthcare Policy, Housing Policy, Education Policy, International Development, International Relations, Social Enterprise, Technology and Innovation, and Social Entrepreneurship.

HUMAN RESOURCE REPRESENTATIVE/ JOB LOCATION AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Student Employment Office / University of Illinois at Chicago
The Student Employment Office, under the Office of Career Services, at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a Human Resources Representative. Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for developing programs and supportive functions related to the Job Location and Development (JLD) program. JLD is a service through the Student Employment Office that connects employers with enrolled students who are seeking off-campus career related part-time positions or full-time summer positions.

Job Responsibilities
Develop and coordinate the Job Location and Development program including programming, logistics, advising and other supportive functions
Assist students with career development activities including identifying employment opportunities
a. Interview students to determine career interests
b. Assist students with career planning, resumes, and interview techniques
c. Refer qualified students to job openings
Develop new job openings through marketing activities and identify employment opportunities
a. Prepares publications for students and employers
b. Develop marketing strategies to increase available positions
c. Develop strategies to increase retention of employers
d. Conduct site evaluations to ensure employee and employer satisfaction
e. Accept job orders
Develop training sessions to assist students with career planning, resume writing, interviewing skills, or job development
Develop advertising and publicity related to program activities.
Coordinate special career and employment related events: seminars, job fairs and other related activities.
Compile and complete reports and projects, some of which are of a statistical nature.

Minimum Qualifications
1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Any combination totaling two years from the following categories:
a) One (1) year of work experience performing basic human resource/payroll or general office/clerical duties
OR
b) 30 semester hours of college course work that included 6 semester hours in human resource administration, business administration, or a closely related field
AND
c) Progressively more responsible work experience performing basic human resource/payroll or general office/clerical duties.
d) College course work in human resource administration, business administration, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
 60 semester hours equals one year
 90 semester hours equals two years

Preferred Qualifications
Progressively more responsible work experience supervising, organizing, coordinating or other significant work with special educational or administrative program initiatives.
Effective oral and written communication
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
Candidate should have the ability to work effectively with staff, the public, and outside constituency groups.
Candidate should have organization and multi-tasking skills.
Candidate should have the ability to utilize various computer software packages.
Work independently and exercise judgment in order to be able to analyze and investigate a variety of questions or problems.

Organization Description
The mission of Austin Coming Together is to increase the collective impact of our member organizations on education and economic development outcomes in the Austin community of Chicago. We carry out our mission by developing and sustaining shared leadership in our four focus areas: Early Childhood Education and Care, Youth Development, Workforce Development, and the Built Environment.
Project Description
The goal of Austin Career Connect is to create an effective pipeline for Austin residents into living-wage careers in the trade industries. ACT will achieve this goal by working with community partners and career training programs to orient community residents to careers in trade industries, assist them in applying for training programs, and supporting their progress toward attaining jobs with career potential.
Position Description
The primary role of the Project Coordinator is to organize and manage a coordinated intake process for trade-industry training providers that serve the West side. More specifically, the Project Coordinator is responsible for carrying out the following duties:
  • Recruit career development professionals to attend Career Connect orientations
  • Recruit potential participants for training programs
  • Work with partners to organize monthly Career Connect orientations
  • Manage the coordinated intake system for Career Connect partners
  • Perform intake interviews and provide basic career counseling and case management services for potential training-program participants
  • Connect training-program participants with additional supports as necessary
Qualifications
The Project Coordinator should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field; and 2-3 years experience in Community Engagement or Workforce Development. The position requires familiarity with the Austin community, experience with data management, proficiency with email marketing and social media tools, and a high level of self-motivation.
Hours and Compensation
The Project Coordinator will be compensated based on experience for 30 hours per week for a trial period ending June 30, 2015. Director of Career Services, University of Illinois at Chicago - Chicago, IL

The position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating career services to medical students to obtain a residency match.  Works in collaboration with the Director of Academic Services to ensure quality programming for career and academic related information for medical students.
Duties:
Management
  • The position functions as a member of the leadership team for the Office of Student Affairs in Chicago.
  • Supervises OSA academic advisors in matters pertaining to medical student career development.
  • Oversees the budget for programming, pertaining to medical student career development initiatives.
  • Functions as back-up to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in their absence.
 Career Services
  • Possesses the knowledge and skills to be a content expert in the field of medical student career advising and to be a point a reference for OSA advisors.
  • Provide professional development in specialty choice decision making, residency application, and career information (e.g., Electronic Residency Application Services (ERAS), Careers in Medicine) for Office of Student Affairs advisors as well as faculty.
  • Act as liaison with UIC Career Services and staff at regional campuses of the COM to collaborate to ensure that there are comparable career programs for medical students at all four campuses.
  •  Function as student organization contact to develop a comprehensive calendar of programming related to career development information.
  • Work in tandem with Director of Academic Services to coordinate team-based advising program, assuming duties such as recruiting faculty advisors and specialty choice career advisors, oversight of OSA program calendar.
  • Develop individualized tailored career plan worksheet for students, that advisors will use.
  • Oversee steps developed to provide student guidance on curricular career pathway options.
  • Develop and maintain the Chicago Charting Outcomes in the Match report, which tracks residency outcome in relation to academic and other factors.
  • Maintains updated communications.
 Residency Application Process
  • Oversee ERAS Dean’s Workstation.
  • Oversee the residency application letters of recommendation process and ensure accurate and efficient transmission of letters for ERAS.
 Longitudinal Career Development Course
  • In collaboration with the faculty physician course director for the Longitudinal Career Development Course for medical students (throughout the four years of the curriculum), provide administrative support for the course.
  • Create, update and develop program evaluation metrics and provide reports.
  • Research and respond to inquiries, problems and issues as they may arise from various sources.
  • Participate in and present career development workshops, presentations and orientations for internal and external audiences.  This would include students, parents, colleagues from around campus, community activities, conferences, etc. Responsible for development of new programs as needed.
  •  Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Requires a Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Prior experience in career counseling and student development theory with preference to professional/graduate level field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience required.
  • Requires, excellent communication, presentation and organization skills.
  • Excellent Computer skills, including Blackboard.
