The City of Aurora is accepting applications for the position of Associate Planner / Planner in the Division of Planning & Zoning. Find out more and apply here.

Associate Planner / Planner:

Under general supervision, provides professional and technical guidance in planning, neighborhood redevelopment, and land use/zoning administration. Acts as special projects consultant and/or coordinator.  Performs or assists in the preparation and presentation of analytical studies.  Assists with the enforcement of various land use regulatory ordinances (i.e. Subdivision Control Ordinance, Aurora Zoning Ordinance, etc.).  Applies professional skills in analyzing statistical data, preparing written reports and making recommendations.

Other duties of these positions may include but are not limited to: collecting data from a variety of different sources including visually observed conditions, professional organizations, and governmental agencies; Serve as staff liaison to various boards, commissions, and neighborhood groups per direction of supervisor; Develop and maintain the Geographically based Informational System (G.I.S.); Perform on-site inspections as required; Create maps, charts, graphs, pictorial diagrams; Other duties assigned.

Successful candidates should have the skill and ability to interpret data; Ability to read various types of maps and plan documents; Provide recommendations as necessary; Collaborate to facilitate private and public development; Review and process site plans and development proposals; Conduct studies, neighborhood meetings and plans for long range planning; and provide assistance to citizens, businesses and other governmental agencies. The successful candidate will be able to apply professional skills to special projects, work in field settings, and be able to work independently.

Qualifications for Hire:

Associate Planner: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or related field; Requires a valid Illinois Driver’s License.

Planner: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or related field, plus two (2) years of professional planning experience in a municipal setting; Requires a valid Illinois Driver’s License.

Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a written exam, physical, drug screen, and background check. 

Associate Planner and Planner are both full-time, union positions.

Beginning salary for Associate Planner is $30.33/hour, after 6 months $31.02/hour, after 1 year $31.81/hour, and annual increases thereafter.  Excellent benefit package.

Beginning salary for Planner is $36.26/hour, after 6 months $37.07/hour, after 1 year $38.03/hour, and annual increases thereafter.  Excellent benefit package.
