Transportation Planner - Regional Intergovernmental Council, Charleston, WV

Location: South Charleston, WV

About Us: The Regional Intergovernmental Council (RIC) is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) serving the Charleston, WV Urbanized Area. Our mission is to enhance transportation and community development with a focus on improving the quality of life through high quality planning products, inclusive mobility solutions, and vibrant placemaking projects. We are looking for a skilled and adaptable Planner to join our team.

Duties:
  1. Oversee the maintenance and implementation of the RIC Title VI Plan and Public Participation Plan.
  2. Assist RIC members, staff, and the public with resolving issues related to the scope of the MPO planning process.
Example of Work: (not all-inclusive)
  1. Collaborate with the team on the development of projects that enhance inclusive mobility and placemaking.
  2. Attend and take detailed notes for all meetings, hearings, and forums that are necessary and appropriate to the performance of assigned tasks.
  3. Conduct research in support of RIC’s long-range Metropolitan Transportation Plan and other RIC plans and studies.
  4. Solicit community support and feedback.
  5. Host and organize public outreach sessions.
  6. Assist municipalities and agencies with ADA compliance and the development of ADA Transition Plans.
  7. Compose grant narratives, compile necessary materials for grant applications, and conduct grant research.
  8. Assist in the development of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

Knowledge and Skills Required:
Demonstrated experience in project development, grant writing, or fundraising; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Effective communication and collaboration abilities; Passion for community development and creating inclusive public spaces; Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and adapt to changing project and program needs.

Experience and Training:
  • A Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning is preferred.
  • Related degrees and/or relevant experience may be substituted.
  • Transportation and planning courses, certifications, and/or experience are desired, but not required.
