Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of the Department of Environment and Sustainability, manages environmental, sustainability, and climate resiliency initiatives in the developmentcoordinationand implementation of various strategic plans and projects. Coordinates all aspects of programs, projects, and special initiatives from initiation through completion. Manages new initiatives and resource/tool development including grant writing. Coordinates oversight and technical assistance to sub-recipients or assisted business, local governments and residents, and facilitates and participates in community-based planning processes. Participates in program design and assessment, data collection, and data analysis and submittal. Performs other duties as assigned.

 Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree (or higher) is required 

    .


  • Six (6) years of full-time professional work experience in environment, sustainability or resilience planning is required. 
  • Valid driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Business; Real Estate; Urban Planning; Public Policy; Public Administration; Sciences; Architecture; Engineering; or Finance.
  • Experience creating community-centered environmental or sustainability initiatives, climate or resiliency plans.

 

*Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States’ territories and Canada must be credentialed by an approved U.S. credential evaluation service belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE).  Original credentialing documents must be presented at time of interview.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

 

Understanding of environmental issues, climate change and its threats to communities, environmental justice, and equity. Knowledge of community-centered environmental or sustainability initiatives, climate or resiliency plans. Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local incentives and grant programs for environment, sustainability or climate resiliency and other funding opportunities. Knowledge of concepts, programs, tools, and trends in environmental and pollution regulations, energy efficiency, renewable energy sourcing and installation, green building techniques or standards, climate resiliency, green infrastructure (installation and maintenance), stormwater management and flood control, and/or nature-based sustainability and resilience solutions. Knowledge of marketing and outreach principles and procedures. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation. Knowledge of the County's environmental programs, as well as its sustainability and resiliency goals and plans. Skill in effectively communicating both verbally and in writing to internal departments, external agencies, and constituencies as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Skill executing project management concepts including managing and monitoring scope, schedule, and budget. Skill collecting, analyzing and interpreting data and applying it to major plans/and project proposals. Ability aligning community and County's efforts/investments needs in suburban Cook County. Ability to analyze and provide a summary of program progress to the appropriate authorities for approval. Ability to set appropriate program and performance goals and facilitate goal accomplishment. Ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with others internal and external to the County. Ability to prioritize and multi-task given overlapping deadlines and required data inputs at various levels. Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments/projects with overlapping deadlines. Ability to supervise employees or/and consultants.

 

Physical Requirements

Sedentary Work 

Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
