Planning and Zoning Coordinator, Community Development - Village of Itasca

Summary

The Village of Itasca is seeking qualified candidates to fill the full-time position of Planning and Zoning
Coordinator. Reporting to the Community Development Director, the Planning and Zoning Coordinator
is a mid-level, professional planning position, responsible for oversight of departmental operational
assignments associated with planning, land use, zoning, and economic development. The position
performs a variety of routine and complex administrative, technical, and professional work in the current and long-range planning programs of the Village related to the development, implementation, and enforcement of land use and related community plans and policies.

Duties

This position attends Plan Commission, Village Board, and various committee and staff meetings each
month; most of which are evening meetings. The position also conducts administrative duties related to
the daily performance of department operations and assignments and represents the Village at other events and meetings.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of zoning laws, comprehensive plans and
planning programs and processes. The candidate will be able to communicate effectively orally and in
writing with architects, contractors, developers, owners, residents, supervisors, employees, and the
general public. The candidate must possess knowledge of and the ability to learn computers applications; creative problem-solving skills; and the ability to provide effective project management of complex development projects, grants, and special projects.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, or a closely related
field. A master’s degree and/or experience with Geographic Information System is desirable. At least two years of professional planning or municipal experience is required; AICP or similar certification is
desirable. A valid state drivers’ license or the ability to obtain one is needed.

The starting salary for this position is $73,000 +/- DOQ plus an excellent benefits package.
