Community Engagement Director - Alderperson Andre Vasquez, 40th Ward, City of Chicago

Description: This position will engage and report on mutual aid and non profit efforts in the immigrant/refugee/asylee space to understand their operations, gaps and needs to ensure that their experiences are included to inform government agency improvements and larger policy creation. They will organize existing resources and create communication networks for knowledge exchange across efforts in this space. They will work alongside the Deputy Mayor of Immigration and Committee Policy Director to coordinate meetings and spearhead initiatives that aim to increase community involvement/engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Mapping and visualization of stakeholders - organizations, mutual aid efforts, elected officials -  who are involved in immigrant and refugee rights work at the city level
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders
  • Creating and/or participating in roundtables and communication networks of stakeholders
  • Creating a reporting mechanism for each group to understand their operations, needs and gaps
  • Represent the Alderperson in community meetings and spaces as necessary and act as the principal liaison between the Alder and stakeholders
  • Creating knowledge documents for alders, agencies and the broader community about the work that stakeholders perform
  • Coordination of community engagement and public meetings
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Resident of Chicago, IL.
  • Very strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish with the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends; maintain a flexible schedule for community meetings
  • Participation in event set up, requiring the ability to lift items weighing 20 lbs.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Large group facilitation and stakeholder engagement experience
  • Demonstrated experience with Airtable, Salesforce, Google Suite, ArcGIS, Mailchimp, and Social Media platforms
  • Familiarity with the operations of municipal agencies, as well as knowledge of City Hall procedures and protocols
  • Content creation via Owned and Earned Media
Compensation:
  • Position is full-time: $66,000 /year with position with City of Chicago benefits, paid vacation and sick time
