Chief of Staff - Alderperson Andre Vasquez, 40th Ward, City of Chicago

Description: This position leads the development and implementation of Alderperson Vasquez’s vision for the ward including constituent services strategies and community engagement (Participatory Budgeting, etc.). This individual will manage and direct activities of staff; coordinate activities of the Ward Office with committee offices, the public, and the media; maintain official records; and act as the office’s principal liaison. They are available to work frequent nights and weekends, maintain a flexible schedule for community events and report directly to Alderperson Vasquez.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervising office employeescarry out responsibilities in accordance with office policy and applicable laws. Responsibilities include onboarding and performance management of employees; planning, assigning and directing work; overseeing hiring processes.
  • Acting as Alderperson Vasquez’s principal liaison with elected officials, City of Chicago staff, intergovernmental agencies, community groups, and stakeholders; serve as a formal spokesperson for the Alder.
  • Managing communications funnel (newsletter, aldermanic statements, social media, press releases and media inquiries, website)
  • Being responsible for the day-to-day office management, including discretionary budget and ward and city issued general email inboxes
  • Supporting office staff as needed with special projects and constituent service requests.
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish, Hindi/Urdu and/or any Top 10 languages spoken in Chicago
  • Experience working at a City of Chicago Department, Office or Council Committee
  • Demonstrated experience with Airtable, Salesforce, Google Suite, ArcGIS, Mailchimp, and Social Media platforms
  • Budgeting, Invoicing and Billing competency

Compensation:

  • Position is full-time: $72,000 /year with position with City of Chicago benefits, paid vacation and sick time
