Research Associate II – UIC School of Public Health – 2 positions

Who: University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Public Health, Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Science.

What : Position 1 - Research Associate II - Alpha 3 (Job ID #91511) will be involved in all aspects of a national research study examining the health of coal miners. This position conducts research by assisting with the collection, entry and cleaning of data and descriptive results. Job responsibilities include:


  • Obtain informed consent from subjects. 
  • Conduct subject interviews. 
  • Collection, abstraction, and entry of study data. 
  • Maintain Institutional Review Board and other regulatory requirements. 
  • Coordination and tracking of overall study. 
  • Perform surveys, interviews, observations or use other methods according to established research protocols. 
  • Collect, process and analyze data. 
  • Summarize research and test results. 
  • May assist with study protocol development. 
  • Coordinate the ordering, inventory and maintenance of equipment, instruments and data collection and analysis tools. 
  • Prepare and contribute statistical data and pertinent information for papers, grants and other documents. 
  • Complete required documentation for regulatory agencies. 
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned 

Position 2 - Research Associate II CXR Project (Job ID #91500) will be involved in all aspects of studies examining the health of coal miners. This position conducts research by assisting with the collection, entry and cleaning of data and descriptive results. Job responsibilities include:

  • Collect, abstract, and enter study data. 
  • Coordinate all participating entities and study activities. 
  • Prepare and submit reports to sponsors. 
  • Perform surveys, interviews, observations or use other methods according to established research protocols. 
  • Collect, process and analyze data. 
  • Summarize research and test results. 
  • May assist with study protocol development. 
  • Coordinate the ordering, inventory and maintenance of equipment, instruments and data collection and analysis tools. 
  • Prepare and contribute statistical data and pertinent information for papers, grants and other documents. 
  • Complete required documentation for regulatory agencies. 
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. 

Qualifications for Position 1 and 2:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in social science, public health, or related field required. 
  • A minimum of one year related research experience. 
  • Knowledge of research concepts, practices and procedures. 
  • Candidate must possess strong organizational skills given the large scope of the study and robust interpersonal skills. 
  • A basic understanding of health care systems and an interest in or experience with coal mine operations/terminology is preferred.
