Staff Assistant - Office of U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (Chicago) DEADLINE 2/8

Who: Office of U.S. Senator Dick Durbin

What: Hardworking and dependable individual to manage the Chicago office front desk and perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. Responsibilities for the position include coordinating the Senator’s Chicago office internship program and managing the front desk.
Managing the front desk requires being the first point of contact for the Senator’s office. Primary front desk duties include answering, screening, forwarding and responding to incoming phone calls as well as greeting and welcoming visitors. This position involves direct contact with constituents experiencing difficulties with the federal government and offering administrative support across the Senator’s office.
The internship coordinator provides leadership in implementing a professional program for undergraduate and graduate students interested in experiencing the day‐to‐day operations of the Senator’s office. Primary internship program responsibilities include recruiting, selecting, assigning, training, and supervising interns and collaborating with the Chicago staff in providing intern assignments and appropriate programming.
Applicants must have the temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner. Applicants should also be highly organized, detail and task oriented, and adaptable to a fast‐paced environment.

Qualifications: Candidates should have 1 to 3 years of related professional work experience, a strong interest in administrative work, public service, and career or internship placement experience. Previous customer service experience is preferred but not required. Knowledge of local, state, and federal agencies and departments a plus. Bachelor’s degree required.
