Grants and Contracts Associate, UIC School of Public Health

Who: UIC School of Public Health, Office of Research Services

What: The Office of Research Services in the School of Public Health is seeking a Grants and Contracts Associate. This position implements the research priorities in the School of Public Health (SPH) in alignment with the College’s research strategic plan. The Grants and Contracts Associate provides expert guidance to SPH faculty, staff, and students in maximizing the competitiveness of multi-college, collaborative, and complex research proposals. This position customizes the support services for investigators, which includes crafting and editing content of components of a research proposal, coordinating all aspects of the proposal submission process, developing customized budgets based on the research strategy timelines, and serving as a resource for investigators on regulations in the protection of human research participants. Duties:
• Collaborate and work with the Principal Investigator, research team, and external partners in building a comprehensive research proposal to be considered for funding.
• Copy edit specific components of research proposal applications for grammar, typographical errors, consistency, and formatting in conformance with application requirements.
• Provide resources and timely information to investigators to ensure proposals are compliant to the protection of human research subjects.
• Align the requirements of the funding opportunity to the research proposal.
• Develop customized budgets to meet the specific objectives and timeline of research strategy activities.
• Teach faculty, staff, and students aspects on the principles of proposal development.
• Craft research templates that can be adapted by faculty for use in proposals.
• Use productivity tools such as geographic information systems and website editing tools to disseminate faculty research productivity.
 • Guide investigators on the development, coordination, and submission of required documents when funding is pending which includes “other support” and human subjects protection documents
• Write content and design layout for the College’s research publications, including the College’s website, Annual Report, and “Research at a Glance”
• Assist in developing press releases for grant award announcements in conjunction with the SPH Office of Advancement.
• Coordinate and support College-wide research initiatives to promote research collaboration.
• Oversee all aspects of the annual SPH Student Research Awards competition.
• Review and approve Proposal Approval Form and related forms for units and unit heads who report to the Dean’s office prior to recommending/obtaining Dean’s signature.
• Manage the SPH Poster Printing Office, including hiring, training, and supervising graduate assistant; evaluate office productivity, and develop policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics or a field related to the position (ex: public health, public administration or non-profit management). 2. Demonstrated experience in proposal development or grant writing in the academic, public or non-profit sector. 3. This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of two years experience in proposal development or grant writing in the academic, public or non-profit sector OR A Master’s Degree with academic coursework/experience related to research proposal development.
• Detailed knowledge of grantsmanship principles, electronic proposal submission requirements, and federal regulations and guidelines that govern the conduct of research such as the OMB Uniform Guidance and HHS/NIH Policies.
• Familiarity with the principles of Human Subjects Protection 45 CFR 46.
