UIC's CPPM is responsible for coordinating development of the campus master plan, initiating space and capital planning projects, overseeing the design and construction of new facilities and major renovation projects, maintaining campus facility records, and managing over 15 million square feet of space in 178 buildings across all 250 acres.
What: Extra Help (temporary) Construction Project Coordinator I (Project Controls) to assist project managers in administering construction and renovation projects for new buildings, renovations, site work and infrastructure development. The position entails assisting with the implementation of controls and procedures, focusing specifically on project budgets and schedules. Duties include:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, designers, procurement staff, construction managers, contractors and other project services staff to provide detailed planning and scheduling of projects from conceptual planning through engineering and construction.
- Develop resource-loaded schedules, including lists of activities, major milestones, critical approvals, long lead procurement items and other critical project deliverables to be scheduled and tracked for the projects.
- Develop project schedules logic, constraints and realistic activity durations.
- Assess the impact(s) of design changes and schedule slippages and inform management of all schedule updates; maintain schedule critical paths.
- Provide guidance and assistance for the resolution of difficult project control problems; may interface with clients, attend regular meetings and give statistical reports.
- Develop and publish monthly reports and charts for management.
- Assist with developing and managing project budgets and project reporting activities using project management software and/or other cost/accounting software; cost reporting to include project budget, changes, commitments, estimate to complete and variances.
- Analyze project controls data to assist project manager in directing project activities. Assist in the tracking of project change orders and development of projections.
- Develop cost estimates using standardized cost estimating templates.
- Database creation and record upkeep, including FCPWeb, PRZM and others.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills :
- Three years (36 months) of college coursework in engineering, architecture or closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: Associate Degree or 60 semester hours equals one year; 90 semester hours equals two years; Bachelor's degree or 120 semester hours equals three years.
- Three years of work experience in construction management, building project management or closely related field.
- Basic knowledge of building systems, design and applicable codes; purchasing and accounting procedures; computerized scheduling tools; standard estimating tools.
- Advanced: MS Project, NetPoint or equivalent; Intermediate: Excel Pivot Tables; Word; MS PowerPoint; excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to express information on any phase of project work in written or oral form which can be readily understood by technical and non-technical personnel; communicate effectively at all levels of organization; work independently and as a larger team; communicate ideas graphically.
Desired start date is February 26, 2018. Temporary assignments are limited to 900 hours and are non-benefits eligible. Work Hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30-4:30 pm. Salary is commensurate with experience. Two positions available.
