State & Local Policy Associate
The Partnership for a New American Economy (NAE) is seeking a State & Local Policy Associate to assist in research, writing, communications, and project management. The State & Local Policy Associate will work on multiple projects, collaborating mostly with NAE’s State & Local team, but also the Research team, Communications Director, and Executive and Deputy Directors. The ideal candidate is an effective multi-tasker, detail-oriented, a strong writer, proactive, creative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced policy environment. This position is full-time and based in New York City.
NAE brings together more than 500 Republican, Democratic, and Independent mayors and business leaders united in making the case for streamlining, modernizing, and rationalizing our immigration system. We advocate for reform through a variety of digital and on-the-ground initiatives and through original research and policy reports. We engage our political leaders in Washington, DC and across the country and we unite the diverse sectors that support reform, including tech, agriculture, business, faith, law enforcement, and education, and others, to show that the need for reform is urgent and the case is strong. At the state and local level, NAE works with these leaders using research, advocacy, and technical support to promote immigrant integration policies and initiatives. NAE is a small team of motivated and committed individuals with diverse backgrounds in fields such as journalism, city government, economics, and immigration policy.
Responsibilities Include:
- Researching and analyzing current and proposed policies, programs, and legislation at the state and local levels.
- Tracking news clips on issue areas, partners, legislation, etc.
- Helping to plan and execute events around the country.
- Assisting the State & Local Director with all institutional outreach efforts, travel, and public speaking.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a strong interest in U.S. immigration policy and/or U.S. politics
- Basic understanding of immigration policies and state and local government
- Strong multi-tasking ability, with desire to work on a variety of projects at once, from logistics and operations to research, policy analysis, and social media.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and able to work well as part of a team.
- Experience with quantitative analysis (STATA, etc.) and design software (Adobe Photoshop, etc.) is a plus.
