Deputy Director of City Planning, Kansas City, MO






Full-time position available with the City Planning and Development Department, Director's Office located at 414 E 12th Street, Kansas City, MO
Salary Range: $6,243 - $11,585 per month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
This is a key leadership position within the City Planning & Development Department reporting directly to the Department Director and will function as the Assistant Director. Provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Director, will serve as the Acting Department Director and functions as a representative of the Department Director on occasion. Directs, manages and supervises all planning related activities within the Department including supervision of the Development Management Division (current planning, development review), Long Range Planning and Preservation Division, (long range planning, mapping, census, and historic preservation) and Urban Redevelopment Division (city development initiatives, project incentives, special taxing districts, Brownfields). Works closely with the City's Assistant Engineering Director related to development review and approval activities within the Department including the Plans Review Division, Permits Division, Land Development Division, and Inspection Division. Provides staff support to and represents the Department during meetings with various committees, appointed Boards and Commissions and the City Council. Maintains frequent contact with multiple constituencies and has the ability to discuss issues, provide information and technical assistance, and explain regulations and departmental policies clearly and courteously, even in contentious situations. Demonstrates a strong design and construction background to effectively assist and supervise the processes required for code review, plan review, inspection, and land development operations. Possesses an understanding of planning, building codes, development regulations, land development and project inspections to successfully coordinate the Development Services and Planning Services operations of the Development. 
Qualifications
REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in planning or related field and 7 years of experience in planning, construction, building code, plan review, inspections and land development operations. Preference given to those with an accredited Master's degree in a related field and AICP certification.
