Canvasser, Field Manager, Campaign Organizer - Chicago

Environment Illinois Campaign Jobs
Job Title: Canvasser, Field Manager, or Campaign Organizer
Location: Chicago, IL
Term: Fall 2013
Hours: 1:45 PM – 10:00 PM

Campaign Description: Here in Chicago, we’re working with Environment Illinois on a campaign to protect Lake Michigan.  The Lake is one of the most beautiful parts of our state.  Unfortunately, billions of gallons of toxic pollution flow into Lake Michigan every year, causing hundreds of beach closings and public health hazards.  So, we’re working to get the Obama administration to restore clean water protections that will keep toxic waste out of Lake Michigan, by putting public pressure on him to support the Clean Water Restoration act.
Everyone in Illinois deserves clean drinking water and should be able to fish, swim, and generally enjoy our streams, rivers, and lakes without worrying about pollution stopping them or making them sick.
But polluters like mega-agribusiness and big developers are taking advantage of loopholes that allow them to dump into the streams that feed into Lake Michigan.  What’s worse is that these polluters are working to prevent our leaders from ever protecting these waterways again.
We need to restore critical protections to ALL of our waterways, including Lake Michigan, and make sure we can do even more to protect them for generations to come. So everyone can enjoy the water  that is such an important part of our state.
Job Activities/Scope:
We sign up members and fundraise for Environment Illinois through door canvassing. We get out into Illinois’ neighborhoods and talk with as many people as possible about the work we do at Environment Illinois. We identify people who support the issue and get them involved. Canvassers will receive rigorous training on the skill of canvassing, and will have the opportunity to receive optional, additional trainings on campaign skills such as generating local media coverage, petitioning, and campaign strategy.
