UIUC: Senior Coordinator of Financial Reporting

The University of Illinois seeks a Senior Coordinator of Financial Reporting to coordinate and assist with the preparation of financial statements and respond to related audit issues. This position will be responsible for providing special analysis for management and monitoring the integrity of University-wide financial system data. Additional responsibilities include:
  1. Coordinate and facilitate the preparation of annual financial reports required by University bond indentures.
  2. Coordinate and facilitate the preparation of the annual University-wide financial statements and related supporting schedules.
  3. Develop various financial reports as required by governmental compliance requirements. In addition, ensure compliance with all reporting requirements by acquiring and maintaining knowledge of applicable State and Federal laws.
  4. Collaborate with UIC Medical Center staff on the monthly financial reports by verifying, preparing, and analyzing data using SQL queries, Microsoft Excel, and current accounting guidance.
  5. Coordinate and analyze University-wide data and prepare reports for upper management as requested. This would include complex variance analyses that require knowledge of University operations and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  6. Engage in professional development webinars, seminars, and/or conferences to assess current and future accounting guidelines that will impact University financial reporting and operations and make recommendations.
  7. Coordinate, analyze, and document research on new accounting standards and evaluate their impact on University policies and procedures.

  8. Assist with University-wide system implementation to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and consistency with accounting practices across the three campuses.
  9. Collaborate with Senior Assoc. Director and Asst. Controller with the review of University-wide reporting practices and recommendations for procedure and/or format changes.
  10. Analyze data to ensure integrity of University-wide financial data systems. Advise units of inappropriate or inconsistent transactions.
  11. Engage with internal and external auditors to assist with resolution of University-wide financial audit issues and the completion of the annual financial audits.
  12. Collaborate with Senior Assoc. Director and Asst. Controller in the development and review of financial policies and procedures.
  13. Serve on University, Campus and/or University Accounting committee/teams as assigned.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in accounting and three to five years' experience in a professional-level financial reporting/financial accounting environment.

Additional requirements include: Extensive knowledge of reporting in accordance with GAAP; proficient in Microsoft Excel and Access; experience working with external auditors and/or for a public accounting firm; demonstrated ability to use discretion and independent judgment; ability to manage and supervise projects and processes and to handle complex projects; excellent verbal and written communications skills to effectively interact with University and departmental officials/staff; excellent problem-solving skills to address difficult, complex issues; analytical ability with strong attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications include: Master's degree in accounting or related field; CPA Certification; experience working with fund accounting systems; GASB standards knowledge; proficient in querying and analyzing large databases.
