The University of Illinois seeks an Information Technology Senior Specialist - Business Analyst to work with the Office of Business and Financial Services' functional units to assess and document business needs and translate the requirements into a user centered interface design. The analyst needs to be familiar with techniques for organizational design, process improvement, technology assimilation, organizational change, process modeling and the various academic disciplines that form the foundation of user experience design. Position can be located on the Urbana or Chicago campus. Additional responsibilities include:
- Completes all documentation needed to capture details of processes, systems, issues and recommendations.
- Conducts interviews and performs necessary research/analysis to create project requirements documentation.
- Designs and evaluates interfaces utilizing user-centered design principles.
- Works effectively with subject matter experts and end users to ensure user experience is formulated to achieve business goals.
- Collaborates with technical teams (developers, systems analysts and database administrators) to design and implement the functional user interaction, navigation, and usability.
- Reviews project requirements/specifications and ensures alignment of test, support and training plans with business objectives.
- Participates in root cause analysis, and makes recommendations for process enhancements and/or other appropriate activities to improve productivity.
- Completes business cases in support of projects.
- Participates in or facilitates business process modeling efforts.
- Translates business requirements into detailed user interface artifacts.
- Reviews documentation for project teams and provides relevant feedback.
- Gathers information such as best practice, regulatory and economic information, business periodicals, and newspapers for use in business modeling.
- Designs and coordinates user research and testing to produce useful, usable, and engaging user interface designs.
- Conducts usability testing and performs quality assurance on implemented requirements and designs.
- Ability to work independently or as part of the team to meet goals and objectives of each project.
- Assist others with user interface design and requirements gathering-related problems.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Computer Interaction or related field and four years’ experience in the delivery of software solutions, two years’ experience as a business analyst, and one year of experience with user design principles and graphic software.Additional qualifications include: Knowledge of business, economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data within a higher education environment; knowledge of business communication and user experience design principles; ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of colleagues or vendors.
