Job Announcement

Under direction, function as a project manager over multiple planning projects, coordinating and managing the development and implementation of complex or specialized planning projects of considerable scope and complexity.

Good knowledge of principles and practices of program planning and administration, program monitoring and evaluation methodology and techniques, marketing strategies, budgeting and financial management. Excellent writing and communication skills.

DUTIES:
  • Coordinate and conduct the internal review and analysis of sister agency capital and infrastructure project proposals
  • Assess the infrastructure requests to ensure it aligns with goals in the specific redevelopment area plans, City Economic Growth and Jobs Plan, and other community plans
  • Establish goals and associated metrics of Tax Increment Financing districts in order to review district performance
  • Procure and manage consultants
  • Manage establishment of plans, coordination with other departments and sister agencies, successfully move plans through community and legislative review processes
  • Work with Planning and Urban Design Division, Business Development Division on large scale planning studies and surveys impacting social and economic development issues
  • Market planning and development opportunities to prospective developers and private companies
  • Participate in and oversee the collection and analysis of social and economic development data
  • Participate in long-range planning and recommends appropriate courses of action
  • Represent the department at public hearings and meetings to discuss proposed planning and redevelopment projects
  • Develop and maintain relationships with private consultants and developers regarding the implementation of planning programs and projects
  • Coordinate planning efforts with other City departments and committees and delegate and governmental agencies
  • Act as a liaison with City departments, community organizations, governmental agencies and developers for the purpose of providing expert technical assistance pertaining to project and work plans
  • Compile and prepare narrative summaries and statistical reports of planning activities

NOTE: Some nights and weekends may be required for meetings and other events.

ualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Environmental Planning or a directly related field supplemented by five years of progressively responsible experience in the development and management of major planning or research studies, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
Disclaimer - "Accredited" means any nationally or regionally accredited college, university, or law school where the applicant is enrolled in or has completed an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Juris Doctorate degree program.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
  • Experience with GIS mapping
  • Experience working for or with the City of Chicago or Sister Agencies (e.g. CPS, Parks District, City Colleges, CTA) or other government agencies
  • Experience with strategic and long-range planning and action plans
  • Experience managing consultants
