Landscape Architect Intern Position

The Internship The SmithGroupJJR Summer Internship Program is designed to attract the best and brightest students from around the world and is dedicated to the advancement of young professionals in the fields of Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Urban Design and Planning. As an intern at SmithGroupJJR, you will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with a wide-range of professionals – from landscape architects, planners and architects to engineers, botanists and wildlife ecologists. Selected students will spend approximately 12 weeks working as an intern in one of our many offices - Ann Arbor, MI, Chicago, IL, Madison, WI, or Phoenix, AZ. Students will be exposed to both the creative and business environment. Assignments will vary and include project research, site visits, computer production, design reviews, and assisting on marketing efforts. Interns will return to their studies enriched by exposure to other students and professionals, and to the extraordinary opportunities in the profession of their choice.

Application Process

Upload a PDF with a maximum of ten (10) (8 1/2"x11") format pages that best represent your skills (be sure to clarify if/where work shown is group work or not your own). The PDF will be evaluated by the selection committee, and should include, but not be limited to the following:

· A scan of a brief (one page maximum) hand written cover letter including a response to the following: Describe a place that has had a profound impact on your decision to become a landscape architect.
· A Current resume.
· Examples of sketches and 3D modeling.
· Examples of hand drawn or computer generated master plans and detailed plans.
· Examples of sections and elevations.
· Examples of technical drawings and computer work.
· Additional work samples focusing on the design process and the way you think.
· A written summary or description of your work.
· Three educational or professional references including phone numbers and e-mail addresses.
