Transportation Planner

JOB SUMMARY:
The Transportation Planner is responsible for assigning freight in a designated geographic region to driver capacity which will yield the highest utilization of drivers and equipment while meeting customer service expectations. This will be accomplished by effectively carrying out the daily plan set forth by the NP group through close association and coordination with other Transportation Planners, Customer Service Representatives and Operations Service Team Leaders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Gain daily market strategy by attendance at morning meeting conducted for designated geographic regions. 2. Assign freight using the tools and systems available to maximize utilization, safety, driver DRCs and to meet and exceed customer service requirements. 3. Use market knowledge to assess customer needs and available capacity while accepting as much freight as possible to keep all SNI freight systems supplied. 4. Effectively manage trailer assets. 5. Maintain relationship with Ops, Customer Service, drivers, Network Planners, support shift and Truckrail by effectively communicating whenever needed.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Have college degree or minimum of 2 years experience with demonstrated mastery dealing with customer service and operations Have held previous position where judgment, initiative and tactful communication skills were demonstrated Must be a team player and able to provide assistance to other team members Possess effective interpersonal communication skills Sensitive, mature and self confident Must be flexible and able to handle changing priorities Must be able to prioritize workload Must be able to provide creative solutions to daily problems.
