Health Justice Intern – The Praxis Project (Temporary, Full Time) (Oakland)

Who: The Praxis Project is a values-driven, national nonprofit organization that seeks to improve health justice through partnerships to build community power. Praxis believes strongly that organized communities are critical partners in the struggle to create healthy communities. Praxis works with over 200 diverse grassroots groups across the United States that influence local policy, mobilize communities, and strengthen programs and organizations to improve health justice. Praxis works in strong partnership to enable local efforts to build community power through training, technical assistance, and capacity building services, as well as comprehensive fiscal sponsorship. Our capacity-building programming is focused on partnerships that actively advance Praxis’ mission to build healthy communities by transforming the power relationships and structures that affect our lives. 

What: internships are designed to provide interns with a very real experience of health justice policy, public health training and capacity building, and field organizing. For candidates with extensive training and experience, this will be an opportunity to apply your skills to national projects impacting various communities; for candidates with less direct experience and training, this is an opportunity to learn the current national landscape of community-based organizing, people-centered training methodologies and grassroots campaign strategy, while exploring the fields of public health and communications. Depending on experience and education, the Health Justice Intern (HJI) will report either directly to a Praxis Director or to a Program Manager. The HJI will:

Narrative Impact Analyst - Race Forward (Oakland or NYC) (2 year fellowship)

Who: Race Forward’s mission is to build awareness, solutions, and leadership for racial justice by generating transformative ideas, information, and experiences. We define racial justice as the systematic fair treatment of people of all races, resulting in equitable opportunities and outcomes for all, and we work to advance racial justice through media, research, and leadership development. Race Forward publishes the daily news site Colorlines and presents Facing Race, the country’s largest multiracial conference on racial justice.

What: The Narrative Impact Analyst will provide strategic support to the organization’s efforts to amplify and innovatively measure the impact of the varied racial justice narrative programs of both Race Forward and allied/client organizations. As a member of the organization’s Impact Planning and Evaluation Core Team, the analyst will work under the supervision of the Vice President of Research and alongside staff from Research, Development, and the Narrative and Communications Program (which oversees the daily racial justice news site Colorlines). They will contribute to and build upon organizational content analysis practice and other impact evaluation methods for narrative change campaigns and journalism.

The Position
Our Oakland office is seeking a full time Research Analyst to provide support in the preparation of the full range of EPS work products under the direction of a project manager.  This includes revitalization/redevelopment, real estate feasibility, public finance, fiscal and economic impact, land use policy, and other analyses.  This is a challenging position offering professional development and a stimulating environment to the individual with the right skills and an interest in the interplay between economics and public policy in the development of cities and regions.
Responsibilities:
  • Data analysis and financial modeling
  • Research using in-house, proprietary, and public information sources
  • Drafting sections of reports, memoranda, and presentations
  • Interview real estate, planning, and other professionals
  • Support meetings with clients and collaborative consulting firms
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required in Economics, Planning, Public Policy, Urban Studies, Business, or related fields
    • Consulting experience preferred but not required
    • Solid computer skills including all desktop applications; strong Excel skills a must
    • Strong analytical and writing skills a must
