This position will support the department’s material management diversion programs, including its recycling, composting, and source reduction programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

·         Support the development, implementation, and management of the department’s waste diversion programs, including recycling, composting, and source reduction programs

·         Develop content for community education and outreach events, presentations, website, blogs, and newsletters

·         Coordinate and lead community education and outreach activities, such as presenting or tabling at community meetings or events and providing education or guidance to diverse audiences in schools and other organizations (This will include occasional work on evenings or weekends.)

·         Support grant applications, grant management, and reporting 

·         Support strategic planning efforts related to waste diversion

·         Support tracking and evaluating the department’s waste diversion initiatives and goals

·         Respond to resident/public inquiries and service requests related to department waste diversion programs 

Additional duties may be required for this position

 

Location:  Department of Streets & Sanitation

Address:   DePaul Center, 333 S. State Street

Hours:   8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. (Occasional work on evenings or weekends will be required)

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, Planning or a related field, supplemented by three years of experience in program administration, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires an applicant to successfully complete an interview.  The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.

 

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

·         Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Environmental Science, Sustainability or degree directly related to the position

·         Previous experience developing or implementing programs or policy for solid waste diversion such as recycling,

       composting, and source reduction

·         Proficiency using Microsoft Office Software Word and Excel
