Housing Law Practice Assistant - North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic

Location: 3500 Western Ave., Highland Park, IL, 60035

Pay: $45,000 to $52,000 a year

Housing Law Practice Assistant

The mission of the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic (NSLAC) is to provide accessible, quality, equitable, free legal services in the areas of domestic violence, housing, and immigration to give low-income, at-risk community members access to justice and the opportunity to live productive and secure lives.

NSLAC is an 8-year-old dynamic nonprofit with a collaborative culture and the goal of becoming the model legal aid organization focused on suburban communities.

The Practice Assistant joining our Housing Law Practice will be expected to assume the following responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys with preparing documents and exhibits and efiling.
  • Maintain client information in case management database.
  • Communicate with clients to obtain case documents and to get required paperwork completed.
  • Provide administrative support to the Housing team including mailing, copying, and scanning.
  • Drop off courtesy copies to the courthouses.
  • Assist with grant reporting.
  • Interpret for attorneys and social worker and translate documents and communications between clients and staff.
  • Perform other responsibilities needed to ensure the Housing Law Practice’s success.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required.
  • Experience providing administrative support.
  • Previous work experience in social service or legal environment preferred.
  • A demonstrated team-player with exemplary interpersonal skills in collaborating and communicating with others.

Salary & Benefits: $45,000—$52,000 depending on experience. Generous vacation policy.
