Development Associate/Grant Writer - Access Living of Metropolitan Chicago

What: The Development Associate - Grant Writer will be responsible for securing corporate/foundation gifts and in some instances government funding to build a sustainable source of corporate/foundation/government support. He/she will be involved in implementing a vital corporate/foundation relations program, which encompasses planning, research, cultivation, proposal development, solicitation and stewardship of foundation, corporate, and government funders.
Responsibilities include:
Proposal Writing: Prepare and maintain a schedule of application deadlines. Work with department heads and professional staff to write and organize proposals including case for support, narrative, financial (in coordination with finance department), application forms, and supplemental materials.

Prospect Research: Identify new and existing foundation, corporate, and government sources of funds to support existing projects, new initiatives and general operations utilizing traditional resources as well as on-line technology. Analyzes research results and creates solicitation strategies in conjunction with other Development staff. Maintain donor and project tracking systems: Working with the Manager of Grants and Planned Giving, steward all grants through to project closeout. Ensure that staff know the requirements necessary for fulfillment of grant contracts.

Reporting: Prepare interim and final reports, as well as other correspondence to funders as needed. Maintain accurate office records and files on grants applied for, awarded and declined. When necessary, update funders on changes to programs they fund, especially staffing changes. Provide information and support materials as needed to staff.

Individual Donors & Major Gifts: Assists the Director of Development on an as needed basis with the development of individual donor centered stewardship, creation of materials needed to enhance the major gifts program, and implementing research and donor prospect identification to identify, cultivate, steward, and secure donations to achieve financial goals.
Other General Department Responsibilities:
  • Gift processing and acknowledgement (shared responsibility) 
  • Assist in audit preparations 
  • Assist in submission of government grants 
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Development, the Manager of Grants and assist other members of the development team 
Qualifications: College degree; excellent verbal, written, administrative and interpersonal skills required. Strong database management and word processing skills. Writing samples required. 2+ years of development or applicable experience. Proposal writing experience preferred.

Salary Range: $41,000 - $46,000
