Description: The UIC School of Public Health is seeking to hire a Program Coordinator to provide administrative and leadership guidance for student field placements. This person will take lead responsibility for development and implementation of a strategic plan for cultivating new practicum and preceptor opportunities for the School's Undergraduate and Masters of Public Health programs. Under minimal supervision, this person will develop new processes and forms; orientation strategies and materials; and the submission and renewal of practicum site contracts. The person will utilize their knowledge of public health and experience with preceptors to establish, implement and evaluate the quality of field practicum placements which will be an essential part of the School's upcoming Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) re-accreditation.
Duties: The selected candidate will have the opportunity to maximize their skills in the areas of:
* Strategic planning: In close collaboration with Associate Dean(s) and divisions, develop and implement a strategic plan for cultivating new field preceptors and preceptor sites.
* Establishing and evaluating field sites: Utilize knowledge of the public health profession to serve as subject matter expert by educating, consulting and guiding students and faculty in public health preceptor and practicum placements; work with division directors, academic coordinators and advisors to identify practicum placements for students and create processes and guidelines; evaluate field experiences in terms of providing opportunities for students to attain identified competencies and learning objectives.
* Cultivating new preceptors: Develop and lead innovative and creative preceptor events and programs in public health.
* Training: Develop and maintain an orientation manual for public health preceptors and a practicum placement manual for students; develop and deliver public health practicum placement workshops and informational sessions for students, faculty, staff and placement sites.
* Data analysis and reporting: Develop and maintain a searchable and interactive database for field practicum opportunities; assist with planning additional data system(s) and online projects; produce and present detailed reports and analyses.
* Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications: Minimum Acceptable Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three years (36 months), from the categories below:
A) College course work in any field.
B) Progressively more responsible work experience in supervising, organizing, coordinating
or other significant work experience with specific educational or administrative program initiatives.
3. Two (2) years of responsible experience in supervising, organizing, coordinating or other significant work with specific educational or administrative program initiatives.
Strongly Desired Qualifications
Master's degree in Public Health and five years experience in practicum placement including management and supervisory roles. Curricular field experience in placement and evaluation, career services, and /or student affairs. Proven experience in the higher education student services leadership and programming. Ability to work innovatively and collaboratively with internal and external constituents. Outstanding interpersonal skills, organizational skills and demonstrated proficiencies in information technology.
