Who: Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS), a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity.
What: A new program at CSIS, the Humanitarian Agenda, seeks to leverage the humanitarian community, help shape U.S. government strategic planning and policies, and increase understanding of both the vast challenges and new innovations in humanitarian efforts. Through public and private events, a congressional task force, and policy briefs, the program will examine opportunities for improving the delivery of humanitarian assistance and coordination between relevant actors. As a new, center-wide initiative, the program aims to integrate the full strength of CSIS experts into one central program.
CSIS’s Humanitarian Agenda is seeking an energetic and organized Program Coordinator to start in late May/June 2018. The successful candidate will be both a self-starter and a team player, possess exceptional communication skills, and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. The position reports directly to the Director of the Humanitarian Agenda.
Responsibilities cover the spectrum of project management from leading logistics for events to interacting with senior officials. Tasks include fostering relationships with key partners, preparing background materials, and planning a day-long conference. The Program Coordinator will also conduct research on current events in humanitarian assistance, with an emphasis on humanitarian access, humanitarian diplomacy, and U.S. policy and leadership. Key Duties:
- Perform project support duties as assigned by project managers to advance client projects
- Assist with preparation of project materials and presentations
- Conduct research on various topics
- Prepare articles, reports, project fact sheets and policy briefs
- Assist with project/client website content and use of social media
- Execute all areas related to event management
- Other duties as assigned
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Working knowledge of public policy issues
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to juggle a variety of tasks simultaneously and prioritize projects efficiently
- Ability to be flexible, well-organized and self-sufficient
- Strong planning, organization and implementation skills which allow the successful completion of projects by specific due dates
- Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends when project needs dictate
- Understanding of social media as a project communication tool
- Experience updating websites or designing websites is a plus
- Proficiency in a second language is preferred
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, planning, communications or the equivalent. A master’s degree is preferred.
